Finger print, it will get a fist print in a minute :=((

Thank Fred but it still will not help as I need maps for Australia but even if I find Aussie map, I still can't find how to install the hence I am getting it done by the service techs as MG Australia recommended.

From my experience with Naviextra and my old D-Max, this is not the case as it was based on the actual headunit serial number that was on the SD memory card so each individual map update is tied into your unit.
That might very well be so, but atleast on the 2.gen cars you just download a zip file, unpack the files and copy them onto the thumbdrive.

The only cases i have seen where it worked this way was for navigation systems where the update cost money.

While i do agree, i tend to be a bit on the cautious side, i update the maps because i see them as a backup option, if My Phone dies for example.

I also have an offline navigation app on my Phone, in case something happens and my Phone loses connection to the internet, its great with the always up to date features of google maps and other like Kit but lose connection to the internet and they become all but useless.

The zs ev navigation is not good but if its all you have its far better than nothing...even if you only use it once a year...

I also always carry Cash in case the electronic payment systems fail.....I know this might sound quite normal to a lot of people but in Denmark Cash is more or less never used...99,9% of all payment are electronic and almost no one (beside old people) carry any Cash...
Can't speak for all apps but google maps let's you download maps of the areas you will be driving through in advance so no internet is needed. Pretty unlikely you will ever get a flat phone these days in the car as you can charge from that whopping big one that powers the car 😉

It has been a while since my last post.

I sent another email to MG Australia Customer Care but it seems to have gone to the Customer Don’t Care department, whoever replied to me didn't even have the manners to put his name on the email and virtually told me to go away.

He told me that MG passed this onto Naviextra and that I should contact them. So I sent a detailed email and got a prompt reply to say I had to use their contact form on their website which does not work.
I finally booked the car in for the 3,000km service and they had their tech guru look at upgrading the maps and he finally gave up and was going to raise it with MG Australia. That was 3 weeks ago and still waiting.

In the meantime I downloaded a copy of 2023 Q4 from a European site, stuck it on a USB and managed to get it installed only to find it is not the AU/NZ maps and it has killed the Nav function. Tried doing a factory reset which did nothing.

So I am now waiting for the tech guru to get back.

Seriously, you really could save yourself so much trouble by just using Android Auto or Apple Carplay.
I know you think that the native mapping app should work, but honestly, it's crap.
I really think you're cutting your nose off to spite your face

That is well and good but they are selling a product that they can't or won't support.

Wouldn't it be nice if they just supplied a head unit that you could load your own apps onto.

Check out this thread and the posts by yakup - Secret menu Mk2 - Pin where he has used ADB debug to enable him to load his own list of apps and accesses them by the HOME button on the screen resulting in not needing to use your phone for CP or AA.

Time to start doing some more research.

Naviextras does work buts it a pain to set up i updated uk q2 2023 to q2 2024 just recently on mg3 trophy

I have a 2023 MG ZS EV and I have been trying to upgrade to 2022 maps but for the life of me, I am not able to create a fingerprint.

I have tried 3 USB's with 16GB using FAT32, exFAT and NTFS without any joy.

This is the home screen and if I drag this screen to the left I get the screen below

View attachment 34678

I select Settings and then scroll down to System
View attachment 34679

I then select Map Update

Followed by the Instruction Screen

Pressing OK opens the screen that says the USB does not contain any updates which is correct.

Inserting one of the USB's, I get a pop up saying the USB has been inserted.
View attachment 34683

When I first insert the USB, it flashes a LED to indicate that it is being accessed so the Infotainment unit has seen the stick.

Each time I insert another different format USB, I have rebooted the head unit and each USB has flashed the LED as it was accessed.

When I go back to my W11 PC, I get the following results

FAT32 show LOSTDIR and System Volume Information folder, both are empty

ExFAT only has the System Volume Information folder.

NTFS is completely empty

One attempt yesterday did manage to create these folder but they were all empty - K:\Android\data\com.telenav.app.arp\files

I have installed Naviextra Toolbox on my W11 PC but because I don't have the head unit files on the USB stick, it will not go past the Welcome screen.

What am I doing wrong?. I have been using Naviextra aboyt 10 years ago when I updated the maps in my D-Max fitted with a Clarion head unit but it had the maps on a SD card which I plugged into my PC, no problems but the MGTouch is about to get a fist through the main screen.

Appreciate any feedback.

Bob
My advice, maybe put your fist thru the screen. It may be expensive but it will do you mental health the world of good and, make you feel better. The whole MG-Naviextra-satnav thing is a twisted road that leads only to insanity. Any attempt at rationality is met with 'not my fault it is MG, not my fault it is naviextra, not my fault it is yours, it is your hardware, it is the dealer, it is the weather and why do you want our satnav anyway?'
I have been, and continue to go thru the same thing, - driving me nuts.

It can be done but yes it's a bind at first to even get registered

Been a while since I last posted here so here is a bit more info.

I have been in contact with another MG owner from NZ (Greg) who is also having the same problems as I have. One thing that I did was posted on another forum the full folder structure that is written to the USB stick and he came back to me saying his was exactly the same.

This is what I posted -
I have tried it 2 different ways.

Firstly I just stuck the new USB into the port and it wrote the following to the USB
Blue USB drive FAT32 format inserted while the unit is playing from another UBS device
G:\LOST.DIR
G:\Android
G:\System Volume Information\IndexerVolumeGuid
G:\System Volume Information\WPSettings.dat
G:\Android\data
G:\Android\data\.nomedia
G:\Android\data\com.
telenav.app.arp
G:\Android\data\com.
telenav.app.arp\files

The only file is the .nomedia at 0 bytes, the rest are just empty folder.

Secondly, I did a reboot and inserted the second USB in while the screen was blank
Black USB drive FAT32 format inserted while unit is doing a hard reset (holding down the HOME button until screen goes blank)
G:\LOST.DIR
G:\Android
G:\System Volume Information\IndexerVolumeGuid
G:\System Volume Information\WPSettings.dat
G:\Android\data
G:\Android\data\.nomedia
G:\Android\data\com.abupdate.ota
G:\Android\data\com.saicmotor.saicev
G:\Android\data\com.saicmotor.folder
G:\Android\data\com.
telenav.app.arp
G:\Android\data\com.abupdate.ota\cache
G:\Android\data\com.abupdate.ota\files
G:\Android\data\com.abupdate.ota\files\MqttConnection
G:\Android\data\com.saicmotor.saicev\files
G:\Android\data\com.saicmotor.saicev\cache
G:\Android\data\com.saicmotor.folder\cache
G:\Android\data\com.
telenav.app.arp\files

Once again the only file is .nomedia at 0 bytes and again all the folders are empty.

Greg produced the same data from his car and sent it to NaviExtra and received a reply saying "Based on the information you provided we regret to inform you that your navigation device is not equipped with our navigation software, but with the software from another provider, called Telenav."

When I googled Telenav I found this site - Telenav Connected Car Solutions for Navigation, Entertainment and Commerce so it seems to me that the 10.1" head unit does not have NaviExtra maps, they seem to be from Telnav.

I did try installing the European maps in my unit, it installed fine but now I get an error that tells me I have the incorrect maps so the NAV app has stopped working.

I find the MG ZS EV is such a great car but my experience has been completely spoiled by this crappy NAVI system.

Will come back with any future finding should they occur.

Well, it had a reply from Telenav who told me to download the NaviExtra Toolbox program which just does not work.

The only thing that sort of worked was the maps from UK MG but these are not the maps for Australia.

If I could find the equivalent site for AU/NZ I would be fine but they don't have the same web site down under.
