Today, as soon as I got in the car without turning anything on I noticed a strong cabin odour of what can best be described as fishy rubber (tyre air) Vesta curry. The smell wasn't present prior to this morning and was last used three days ago.

I checked the spare wheel well and footwells as dry.

The cabin filter does need changing but it doesn't smell nor is it mouldy.

The Aircon smells okay.

However, when I checked the engine (motor) bay I noticed the passenger side coolant expansion vessel (battery coolant) is at minimum and has a crusty residue around the underside of the lid (see pic). This residue has a concentrated smell of Vesta curry. I've a strong feeling the cabin air is sucked in around this area as the cabin filter is located at that side.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The car is going in for its 60k 4yr service on 4th Aug so filter should be changed and coolants checked.
