FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE - not working

Collision avoidance systems are not foolproof. They may detect and save you, they may not. I would certainly not recommend anyone depend on the car stopping itself in all situations.

I tend to get false positives with my MG4 and to avoid it slamming the brakes on, I set it to Alert only, so I still get warnings.

I agree, I used to get lots of warning beeps in my FL5 (cars on sharp bends cars coming from the left at junctions etc), but I haven't had one in my S5. So either the system is vastly improved or it isn't working, might have to try the large cardboard idea.
Tried the large cardboard box idea and basically flattened it with no warnings at all

My previous Kia was exactly the same and I did just that..have it to alert only.
My worry with the S5 is that I've not had a single alert...even when I had a near miss and I am 100% sure my Kia would have alerted me dozens of times in the same situations..

No one is saying they are foolproof. We are suggesting the MGS5 FCA does not work at all, no alert, no stopping….

Understood.

Am I right that the MGS5 doesn't have a front radar and that it is a vision system that does the detection? Suggesting then it is a software problem.

Well, there are no front parking sensors
Not clear if there are hidden radar sensors behind the grill

The ACC works ok, which suggests it should work… hoping they can sort it with a software update soon.

ok let me know how it goes, I’m hoping you prove me wrong
I'm now convinced this is not working on mine. I set it to high and braking put some boxes in front of the garage door and approached at 10 mph not a bleep and no braking, I slammed the brakes on and stopped just before the boxes, tried it again with it set to alert and high still no beeps. My previous fl5 would have reacted long before I hit the brakes. Will be discussing this with the dealer.

Thanks for the info… I’m pretty sure mine is the same…. I think it’s fare to assume that this is a common issue. It’ll be interesting to hear what their response is. I’m guessing this is required to achieve an NCAP 5 rating.

So my dealer has told me there is nothing they can do, as there are no errors showing and everything is calibrated as it should be.
Apparently, there is no diagnostic test they can run to validate the feature either!!

I used to have a Mazda and I remember dropping into the local dealers and they were testing out the FCA, they did it with a high viz vest (I guess any vest would do) put onto a broom handle so the holder could stand out the way and they then drove the car at the vest, was really interesting to see it done and each time the car stopped before the vest.
