Read yesterday that within the next "year" all chargers in the UK over 8kwh must have contactless payment options.

There must be thousands of chargers across the Uk that are old and never came with contactless. These will have to be converted unless they are too old and can't be. This in turn means that charging will become much simpler for us all but charger owners are faced with big expense to convert or remove chargers.
They face fines if this is not done and I can see a lot of private chargers in e.g. hotels or community units being disabled entirely because the expense is too much.

The retrofit requirement is only for rapid (50kW+) units.

Any new installs over 8kW will need to comply

Legislation is currently in draft though, isn’t law yet.
