With the war between Trump and co and Iran, and now Iran threatening to sink any shipping trying to pass through the Straits of Hormuz Iran has largely halted oil and gas exports through strait of Hormuz have you witnessed panic buying of fuel and price increases in your area

We have witnessed price increases here in Mannum South Australia, but we are approaching a 3 day holiday week end, so the local fuel stations up the price to cash.
Mannum, being right on the Murray River, is a holiday hot spot for the city dwellers to drag their monster wake boats here to make the most of the warm weather before the cold hits and they put their boats into storage. Big 4 X 4s to drag these monster boats that use fuel like it's on tap, so the kids can jump their wake boards as high as they can behind the boat ... being good parents or some such nonsense .... but probably mostly to pretend they are doing well or something .....

Anyway, all the fuel stations around the next closest town, Murray Bridge, are already seeing cues of utes full of jerry cans so they can stock pile fuel before it gets mega expensive .... fortunately, they haven't figured out how to charge for the sun on the solar panels, so it won't worry us too much ....

Been a a few queues around here since Monday, saw a couple closed on Wednesday as out of fuel. Was almost tempted to do a tour of local petrol stations in my EV to show them what they are missing, plus it would have made a bit more space in the 'tank' for todays delightful spring sunshine to be used.
I guess the diesel mantra is now 'I can drive for 600 miles and spend the next 24 hours looking for fuel' instead of 'I can drive for 700 miles and fill up in a minute'!

One of our family members has had to order some central heating oil yesterday.
There is at least a one week wait time and the price has shot through the roof.
Also, if the price increases before delivery they expect you to pay it.
A friend was due a delivery yesterday at a reasonable price but the company have refused to confirm when it will be delivered or how much it would be, they have had to turn the heating off as they were running on fumes anyway. Another was quoted just over £300 for 500 litres, this then went up to £750 a day later.

That is the same to what I have seen this morning 😣.

They seem pretty stable in Suffolk. But I'm glad we have one EV in the fleet.

Mine is the only EV in the house. Our local petrol station knocks a few pence per litre off fuel on a weekend to boost sales. There are usually queues. I filled up wife's car late afternoon and only had to wait for one car. Returned with my daughter in her car a couple of hours later and there was a huge queue. Think there was a combination of discount fuel and fear of escalating prices.

I drive past a Sainsbury's petrol station on the way to work.
Thursday 26th 126.9 per litre
Friday had the day off.
Monday 128.9 per litre.
Tuesday 130.9 per litre
Wednesday 132.9 per litre
Thursday (today) 134.9 per litre.

Diesel was 140.9 per litre, that seemed to stay steady then jump today to 146.9 per litre.

a die hard petrol car owner at work was asking me about evs today  :ROFLMAO:

Gas prices may go up and that means electricity prices will follow - should I have invested in solar panels? Doh!
I keep wondering about that but I think I'm passed the age to get my money back.

A couple of years ago I replaced all the windows and doors which were double glazed but with hardwood surrounds and aluminium frames with new double glazed ones, and a complete new boiler and central heating system. I think that has saved me more than having solar panels and a home battery. It's nearly halved my energy bill.

I keep looking at Solar + Batt but the initial outlay is still very high for my budget and I'm really not convinced I'd be alive to see the payback over capital.

There are three reasons I have not gone down this route:
1. Concerns over the roof getting damaged ( heard a horror story)
2. My age - if I die my wife has the extra expense of future maintenance - replacing inverters - cleaning panels etc.
3. Not economically viable, though I would still do it for environmental reasons.

I am in a similar quandary but only for reason 3, where not viable is currently outweighing the environment benefit. :(

re the other 2, not bothered because
1 - not heard any horror stories re roof, but have heard many others good, can't let one story override all others.
2 - the kids would help out. (hopefully)
