Have you noticed fuel prices going up

I don't doubt there is an element of profiteering, but the truth is that UK and European kerosene price is linked to jet fuel price and because the UK (and Europe) has limited storage and reduced refinery capacity (two closed in UK last year) and most oil companies are small, family-owned businesses with little or no storage capacity of their own and so they and we are at the mercy of the Eurozone kerosene spot price. And most of the UK's and Europe's kerosene is currently stuck the wrong side of the Strait of Hormuz and refineries in the Gulf are cutting back on production (for understandable reasons).
Conclusion
Fuel terminals in the UK must follow strict regulations regarding storage duration, safety, and environmental impact. A minimum storage period of 60 days is advisable to ensure compliance and maintain fuel quality.
After the year 2000 fuel strikes, rules were changed.
So as long a fuel keeps arriving then there shouldn't be any shortages.

I drove through Peebles this morning and the petrol was 149.9p, with the diesel over 170p.

I still don't think it's as bad as people are making out. It's many years since I paid over 140p at a filling station near Inverness. Just before Christmas 2022 I veered away from a price of over 170p (petrol!) on the motorway and was very pleasantly surprised to find some at under 140p not far away. At that time pretty much all the regular petrol stations were over 140p.

I happened to drive behind the Bo’ness town service bus which circulates around town and I think also goes over to Forth Valley Royal Hospital at Larbert. Anyway I noticed it bears the green stripe of electrified excellence upon its number plates 👌

Now there’s a wee tale about an omnibus to stave off the ongoing demands for the eight bus missing key diatribe still to follow.

Sainsbury's in Derby is 142.9 for petrol and 168.9 for diesel. The BP garage at East Midlands airport is 151.9 and 181.9 respectively. That's 9p more for petrol and 13p for diesel.

But if you really want to pay over the odds try the service station on the M1 at Donnington Park. 176.9p for petrol and 191.9p for diesel.

We shouldn't really Smirk, should we? 😉😆👍
We definitely should.......

Just remember all the ridicule from the petrol heads - milk floats, hanging around for hours waiting for it to charge, batteries dead after 5 years, cant use heating in winter... HA

Yes we can smirk

Funny how so many things the petrol heads mocked EVs about have come back to haunt them - waiting for hours to refuel, never knowing whether fuel stations will be able to provide, range anxiety, plummeting vehicle resale values, running costs, etc., etc....
