Holdcroft Warrington - MG Dealer Discussion, Opinions & Experiences

I bought my car here and purchased a three year service plan with it which was good value. Like most dealers they don't do routine updates of software. There was a problem a year ago when they couldn't do MG repairs for a couple of months because 'their system was down' and I had to take my car to another dealer. Whatever the problem was it seems OK now. The second year service seems to have been done efficiently and they sent me a video of the technician doing the routine safety checks.

Waste of time and expensive! I phoned for a price for a first service for my MG3 Hybrid+ I was quoted £151 and that included oil and filter, I asked if they were sure (it was their call centre) she checked and said sorry it was £339, I queried it and she went off to discuss and came back and said it was £151, I said I didn't want to get there and they charge me more, she said she would get the service department at the garage to call me. They called by the following day but it was the call centre (starting to go round in circles) she eventually gave me the first line to their service department: 01925 231231 (Option2 for service). She told me it was £331.51! when I queried it and told her of the prices given by their call centre, she said and I quote: " The prices are fixed by MG and they have to charge those prices by Law" What??? when I said I had been told that by another dealer (minus the by Law bit) and that their price was cheaper, she then said prices were by region and perhaps I lived in a cheaper area - I live in the East Midlands. So, what a load of rubbish. I have spoken to several MG dealers and they all gave loads of waffle about their prices. A good friend of mine ( a mechanic) also suggested that the quality of servicing is very questionable, he suggested that I mark my oil filter to make sure they change it as he has had experience where an oil and filter change was charged for but not done - he said because they used to not change them at one time if you had low mileage e.g. 5K and I can bear that out with a call I had with another call centre who gave me a Lite service price for a low mileage service, then quickly corrected himself to say they don't do that service option anymore. It's a real shame that cars are now so technically advanced that independent servicing garages cannot do them anymore. There was a change made in the Block Exemption Regulations (BER) on October 1, 2002 which stated that: All technical information must be made available to independent motor traders. and: Authorised repairers can offer different types of spare parts including non-OEM, that is, 'parts of matching quality' except for warranty, free services and recall work. MG appear to be working outside of this legally binding framework by invalidating warranty unless the work is carried out by their approved dealers certainly the digital servicing record that only they can access shows how restrictive their practices are.

So, I've waffled on about this but it doesn't inspire any confidence in MG and that pricing wise they just charge what they want.
