Quite often I don't bother locking the car after I get out (we have a private drive on a quiet road). I take the key with me inside, which is out of range of the car.
A few days ago I did this in the evening, then went outside again for something about 20 minutes later to find that my headlights were still blazing across the road and the radio playing. I was a bit disconcerted, wondering do they ever turn off?
Today I did the same but during the day. It was more than an hour after I had exited the car and was going to walk down the road, when I noticed the windscreen wipers in the car go. I looked inside and saw both screens were also on and active.
How long does it stay on? Until it runs the battery flat?
I know I can just lock it every time I exit the car but it's not something I've had to worry about for the 30 years I've lived here. What if it's left overnight, with the headlights on? It's a security concern too because if some thief is passing by they can see that the car is 'active' and just drive off in it, even without the key being near.
