IM5 looks like the old Tesla Model 3

I have come across a lot of comments on the internet suggesting the IM5 is a copy of the old Tesla Model 3 from the front, so I tried to compare and goodness do they look alike! It's as if IM slapped their badge (another blatant plagiarism from the old Warner Bros logo) on a model 3's bonnet and called it a day!

In other news, the White House looks like Buckingham Palace.

Quite and that's the older M3, not the latest version.

Indeed they are not very alike in my view:

• Headlights very different proportion
• Front mouth turned down whereas is up for M3
• Mirrors different shape in the lower part
• Side profile of IM5 is much more flared out
• Rear looks quite different.

With the latest Highland model of the M3, the IM5 looks more different.

Remember that a big saloon/hatch car with panoramic roof and good aero has limited design options.

"Inspired by" is fair, and in the interior "copied Tesla's minimalist design" is fair, although the IM5 departs quite a bit from it (multiple screens, stalks, centre console).

The Chinese have long since moved on from copying, and are innovating.

Tesla, by contrast, seem to be stuck with a very limited model range with little innovation.

I currently drive a Model 3. IMO the IM5 looks a lot more squat than the M3, especially round the rear quarters, it also seems to have a lower nose with more prominent 'wings'. Some of that might be because the IM5 is longer but I think the M3 beats the IM5 on accommodation (frunk and boot). The M3 seems to sit between the sleek IM5 and the rather bulbous IM6 (sorry) in terms of looks.

IM5 is a sleeker looking car than the M3 which could never be described as a looker.

As an owner of a first gen Model 3 who is anxiously waiting for his IM6 I can say that there are some similarities but the IM5 looks far better.
One thing springs to mind when I look my 3 from a specific angle:

Nah, they both look like eggs from the side. That's the real similarity.

Not as bad as the Y though, the proper Cadbury Creme Egg mobile.
