IM5 on MG website.

Too expensive, you are at Tesla model 3 money for that.

Yeh, but Teslas are literally, Two a penny.
And possibly no better. And one simple thing that's a massive no no, for me is, no screen in front of the driver. Plus just like summut a bit different. (Even though they look very similar) 🙂👍

It will be interesting to see whether software (and software management) lets it down.
It would need to be a massive improvement over the current software for that money, wouldnt have a Tesla now as Musk is a clown but the software is really decent in all the cars I've been in.

"The range-topping Performance variant also makes use of a 100 kWh battery. While the range dips to a max 357 miles, the power goes way up to 751 PS alongside 802 Nm of torque, and acceleration is properly blistering; 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds.

That rapid 800V architecture can deliver a 10 to 80 per cent charge in just 17 minutes.

Meanwhile MG says the car’s cabin is akin to a ‘penthouse suite’.

Expect automatic parking, a ‘Rainy Night Mode’ which uses cameras to highlight dangers you might miss with the naked eye, and rear wheel turning technology to make urban driving a doddle and which can also make the IM5 go sideways like a crab!

There’s an enormous ultra-HD 26.3-inch infotainment display which is supported by a 10.5-inch touchscreen. That comes as standard on all cars.

Every IM5 also features a panoramic roof and a bespoke audio system featuring 20 speakers with the addition of four in-ceiling ‘Sky Speakers’ for the richest, fullest sound."

Sounds pretty premium !!

Not sure what is better about it, just compared the base models and a Model 3 is faster with a longer range, and the software will be pretty much bug free.

Not that I would buy either new, £40k is too much money to spend on a car for me.

But better all around than Tesla and very imprortantly not buying from Elon Musk.
Take Musk out of the equation and I wouldn't say it was better.

Pretty much same price.
Tesla is quicker
Tesla has better range and is a smaller battery (so cheaper to run and is the new 64 kWh LFP battery)
Tesla software is proven
Tesla charger network.

Negatives.

No stalks (can be cured with aftermarket added ones)
Centre screen only (would put me off)

And probably another negative for MG: the crap dealer network/aftersales, and will it have functioning OTA updates?

Tesla has Tesla rangers that come to you rather than you going to them

I was looking at the Tesla Model 3 Performance. Before I got my X Power. And i did like it. The no screen for the driver was a big no no for me. Although to be fair you can get an aftermarket plug and play one that's looks and works great.
For about 200 quid. But it was the fact I could get a Brand spanking new,
X Power for 25 grand. When it would have been a 3-4 year old Tesla for that price.
So to me, it was a no brainer.
And it's proved to be a good move. As my
X Power, has been faultless and a pleasure to own. 🙂👍

That's the point! This is to directly compete against the 3. With a lot of people wanting the format of the 3 but no longer prepared to buy from a Musk controlled company since he went all Nazi and paid over 1/4 billion $ to get a truly evil scourge of humanity into office in the US, this should do well.

It's not just the Tesla, there are so many good options at that price level that I can only see them selling small numbers, unless they really sort themselves out.

Wasnt the model Y £55-60,000 when it first arrived with Model 3 performance 55k. With the 800v and quicker charginh 40-50k is about right. Lots of tech. Its competitive especially the mid trim which has a high Chance of a £5000 discount at some point bringing it within lower tax range

It would have to be a proper price decrease to reduce the tax, it's the retail price they use for tax purposes.

Tesla does have a brilliant charger network, wherever possible I use it when travelling and it is cheaper than a lot.
But for varoious reasons, I wont buy a Tesla, I like the MG brand, but my choice in November (end of interest fee loan) is likely to be tricky with such a vast choice, but sifting the rubbish from good is going to be a tricky one!

At this price point it is more likely to sell mainly to the company car driver / salary sacrifice owner IMHO. These owners are'nt too bothered about the retail price, only the net monthly payments (after tax benefits). They also get their VED paid by the finance company. I think I've heard somewhere that around 80% to 90% of brand new EV's (worth over about £40,000) are sold to the fleet / lease companies.

The problem is that when these vehicles eventually end up on the retail market there are not enough private buyers around, hence the depreciation in 2nd hand values.
