Here in Australia you can use any registered mechanic for servicing but we also have fixed price services which are very well priced and only needed every 2 years or 40,000km.
9,000 miles or so is a little far for me to travel for a service Bob

thanks for that

If that's the cost for the filter, what was the price of the whole service?
that was the quote for the whole service - bearing in mind the MG filter only costs around £17 and the time to replace it is 5 minutes - £91 Labour is, imvho, a total rip off

MG pricing is extremely high for the work involved eg over a £110 to replace a cabin filter
I can confirm that. In Germany, I paid 520 Euros (~450 Pounds) for the second service of my MG4.
Here is the breakdown:

  • Inspection (Just where the technician takes the checklist and performs a test drive): 192.48 Euros ~ 166 Pounds
  • Replace Breakfluid: 106.94 Euros ~ 92.50 Pounds
  • 0.8l of Breakfluid: 27.18 Euros ~ 23 Pounds
  • Cabin Airfilter: 21.39 Euros ~ 15.5 Pounds
  • Pollenfilter: 88.50 Euros ~ 76.5 Pounds
  • Keybattery replacement: 5.69 Euros ~ 4.7 Pounds

Those prices are without tax, so you have to add an additional 19% to everything.

In my case, I knew that this dealership would be more expensive, but I didn’t expect it to be that much. However, since the MG dealer in my town went bankrupt and the one in the other city refused to service my car, I had to go to this one to keep the warranty.

I am a bit confused here :-
Just why you have been charged for a Cabin Air Filter AND and a very expensive Pollen Filter ?.
They are the same thing ?.

Yes, it is. It's actually my fault in the translation. The 21 euros is for the work of replacing the filter, and the 88 euros is for the material (the filter itself). Absolutely crazy, considering you can find replacement filters online for 20–30 bucks.

Pretty safe to say I will very likely not go there again, but I didn’t really have a choice this time. Hopefully, my local MG dealer finds an investor and gets back on track next year.

After taxes that's around 130 Euros for changing an air filter.

Absolutely ridiculous!.
No wonder these people get tagged with name “Stealers” and not Dealers.
Seriously, I would change that bill myself.
Ask the service manager to go through it with you and ask him to justify the cost of the charges.
I looks massively over inflated imho.
