The whole “new model” not on the insuers database is a big issue, useful post.
Database was an issue but added being AWD made it a bigger issue. Comparison sites default the AWD as just a S6 Trophy even when you select the AWD on the drop down selections. So once all the prices pop up it’s all for the Trophy single motor.

Extra beware you are insured on the proper trim for AWD owners. I guess once your number plate is in the database it might not be an issue but that’s my next year’s problem now.

I've just been through this. Allianz, who the Skoda was with - 'no, we don't insure those, they are not on our list'. Right - well, it's on mine and I collect it on Friday.
Got a quote via compare the quotes 'r us and the AA came up at £450 - great, I'll take it - I said to nobody. Clicked the link to see a brilliant message that they don't/can't/won't insure the car and can't find any policies to suit - despite having just appeared at the top of the list....
Hastings then - varied prices across 4 comparison sites, picked the lowest at £462 a year.
What a de Klerk (one for the rugby fans). Anyway, all done now and ready to collect on Friday morning!

I take it yours is a dual motor. I’m with Hastings too and had this malarkey. My quote through comparison sites was similar to yours but it turned out to be only for the Trophy Long Range after I insured it. Make sure your Hastings paperwork says ‘MG Motor S6 Trophy AWD’.

Update: I've had a similar experience as Darwin show the Trophy LR as "SM" (single motor) so took awhile for agent to even find it - then "Sorry, we don't cover it".... O, argued for full refund without penalty as it's THEM unable to continue cover. It's also a vanity plate on retention ready to swap, but kept showing the existing car and not the revised plate. Anyhow, sorted new policy with Hastings Direct. But annoying. There's a lot of reluctance to quote, presumably as parts for accident repairs have to come from China and could take months. But a solution would be a parts centre in UK. Have MG, Omoda, Jaecoo etc thought about a UK storage for parts? Alternatively, there's scope for an insurer to break ranks and offer another "extra" - "Off road awaiting parts" cover in partnership with a leasing company. Maybe all the UK offices for Chinese imports could find a way to do this? Shipping times from Kkrea can't be much shorter, yet there's no reluctance to insure Korean built vehicles.

Mine is single motor (had to gamble on kerb weight for the upcoming London SUV tax - don't ask! - being below 2,000 kg) ... Well, different experience altogether - I just used one those "compare" websites and went for the cheapest cover that was available. Difference between cheapest and most expensive was £2,000. All these issues you mentioned was the car being new to market and databases being slow to update, nothing to do with parts - we S6 lot are in the same boat as all other MG owners although some ZS parts might be more readily available now. Same as some of the insurers, many other websites would not recognise the car as existing yet ... getting better now, at least my registration number is now recognised as being MG S6 and not "unknown"

Bit of a long story........

Well what a faff insuring this new car. Apparently MG doesn't do the complimentary driveaway insurance anymore and being a new car the registration number usually not loaded up on the insurance database. My existing insurance company couldn't give me a quote online with me thinking because it isn't recognising the new reg. So I ended up getting a 1 day cover so I can drive the new car home from the dealer. Even getting this 1 day cover was challenging as some companies don't even have the S6 on their selection list.

Got home and a day lapsed hoping the new reg will be in the insurance database but no such luck. So I decided to speak to a human from my existing insurance company to make the car change as previously they couldn't give me a quote online. Well they still couldn't give me a quote as with the new car details I no longer meet their criteria so they can't insure me and I have to cancel my existing policy.

So over to the car insurance comparison sites, entered the car details manually 'S6 Trophy AWD', and a bunch of hits with some reasonably acceptable prices (around £500). I went with Hastings and I looked at the documents and the car details say 'S6 Trophy'. As this is an app policy I have to use their app messaging service to communicate and it took them a day to reply and got me nowhere so I decided just to ring up and double check that I am insured on the AWD. The agent was a little puzzled what the heck I am on about, so I explained there is the SE, Trophy and Trophy AWD trims. In the end he found the AWD trim and it turns out I was insured on the Trophy (single motor) trim. Now trim changed on the policy and they want another £414 which is nearly 100% of the price I already paid. The agent did abit of messing around with the policy and managed to cancel the policy and start a new one with only a £95 difference which I can live with.

The prices on the comparison sites were all showing single motor prices even though the dual motor details were entered. And when you click through the links to the insurance company to pay you can't change the car details, it just takes you to payment.

Moral of the story make sure it is the dual motor AWD on your policy for the AWD owners.
Hi I bought my brand new S6 rwd on December 30th but couldn’t pick it up from the dealer until January 16th because I could not get insurance as my car registration was not on the data base. Luckily I had use of another vehicle
