Keyless entry fob -is it motion enabled?

Can't find any info on this. Just purchased a 10 month old MG3 hybrid + Trophy. Am I right in thinking that the fob becomes inactive after x seconds ? To prevent man in the middle style hacks whilst the car is locked on my drive at night. I have a "Faraday" box that I keep the spare keyfob in but do I need to put my in use bunch of keys in as well?

I would imagine you need to put both sets in the bag, or bags. I bought mine from Amazon, there were two bags in the bundle. I use both. aitch

You can easily test whether the key fob becomes inactive after x seconds. Place it on one of the tires and try after a short time whether the doors open or not...

It is only the Cyberster and S5 keys that have sleeping technology to put the key to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity

Experimented this morning. Either the fob goes to sleep or the battery is weak, because the car wouldn't unlock with key on the ground next to car after 10 minutes inactivity.

I don't risk it, I bought a faraday box and both our sets of keys are in there at all times we are in the house.

Hi my mg3+ hybrid doesn't have keyless fob entry i have to press the button. Once in the car it detects the key and the start button is enabled. It is only the se version.

The se still needs you to unlock the car by manually pressing the key fob first though. Only the trophy detects the key as being near.

I've always just chucked both sets of the 3's keys into a little old lidded tin box. 'Faraday' - too high tech for MGs!

Does that lidded tin box stop the signal though? If not a thief can relay your signal and the car is gone! Faraday box was £25 on Amazon, and I can stand next to the car and the signal doesn't unlock the car.

Nice one John. I can't test this box with the closed lid of course but the lid is similar to the way a biscuit tin fits over the tin. This does prompt the thought that one really should use a pouch when parked away from home.

Quite agree. I've just heard of thieves capturing the signal while stood by your house door, and either using it in via a relay to unlock the car, or recording the signal to program their own device, and Boom, the car is gone!! Just not worth the risk.
