Preparing a smug grin here, my BMW i3, 12 months tax is £20, happy with that

Same as my mate's 2.0 diesel Vingale Mondeo estate.Preparing a smug grin here, my BMW i3, 12 months tax is £20, happy with that![]()

It really makes no sense at all. My i3 has a Range Extender so it's classed as a Hybrid but I never use the REX. In 2028 when the 3p per mile comes in, I gain again because it's only 1.5p on the i3.Same as my mate's 2.0 diesel Vingale Mondeo estate.
You are correct but I'm the second owner as the car was a pre registered with 5 miles on the clock. It might have cost me £185 extra for the VED but I saved nearly £10k on the list price.

Aye, it's a really fair system isn't it.Same as my mate's 2.0 diesel Vingale Mondeo estate.
Yeah - It’s a complete farce tbh.Same as my mate's 2.0 diesel Vingale Mondeo estate.
Mine came via SMS (reminder) and email (with the V11 16-digit code), both this morning. If you're not signed up for electronic reminders then you should get the physical reminder through the post.8
Presume you still get a reminder through the post? Mine's due 1st March.
I had to pay £195 VED when I bought my MGS5 in August last year

hi Jeff that’s useful information.Your right !.
I got caught out early.
Our car was a pre reg, in August 2025.
The dealer had registered the car and paid the £10 for the first year.
I asked them to apply my private plate ( on retention ) and put onto the car when I collected it.
This was done successfully, but because the car required a new V5C it triggered a request for the car to be taxed again.
I had to pay the full £195.00 in order to get it taxed !.
I should have tried leaving it on the original plate and then flip to the private plate after 12 months.
I gained a year on the ZS EV so can’t really complain ( but I will of course ).
Yes this is the first time I have paid any VED on an EV because I used the hack last year by taxing both cars before the ist of April 25 but paid nothing to do so but now they have caught up with me my wife and a few million others who used the same hack. You’re right Les, I think it’s £10 for the first year on EV’s cars costing less than 43 grand ish.
If I remember correctly.
Well so far the wife's buying it......Great idea!![]()
Ahh, but is she buying the new car every year?Well so far the wife's buying it......
