STAY AWAY FROM MG & MELVILLE MG! CHEAP BRAND, FAULTY WORKMANSHIP, UNETHICAL BEHAVIOUR
I purchased a BRAND NEW MG ZS Hybrid in May 25 & by August 25 it required a new transmission. I was told the replacement would take 2-4 days. IT TOOK 7 DAYS! They admitted in writing that they had never replaced a hybrid transmission before which is why it took longer. Once fixed, I drove less than 80kms & the exhaust gasket BLEW due to FAULTY WORKMANSHIP of the repairs. Once repaired I go to collect the car & IT DOES NOT START! 2 WEEKS later the car is again fixed, the PEU Charger had an insufficient wired connection. Further faulty workmanship by Melville MG technicians from the transmission replacement.
Before I collect the car, I’m told they want to do an extensive test drive. This involved the Service Manager taking MY CAR home & leaving it at his HOME overnight before driving back to Melville MG in the morning. I know this because the MG app shows exactly where the car is & when it’s being started & driven. UNACCEPATBLE & completely unprofessional in my opinion. The test drive should have been done during business hours and not taken home by Melville MG staff.
It’s important to note at this point, MG refused every refund request stating the vehicle was fixed. This car has spent 37.5% of its 6 month life in an MG workshop with major faults & it’s STILL not worthy of a refund.
Since I refuse to put my safety at risk, I negotiate to sell the car to Melville MG at a $6K loss. This was on a Friday. I had not completed any forms or signed anything. 8:30pm on that Friday night my MG app alerts me that the car has started & was driving in Wellard. I message the GM & was told that they were doing further test drives even though the vehicle was ready to collect the day before. Her story then changed to a salesman took the car because they were buying the vehicle YET I had not signed ANYTHING nor had I received ANY PAYMENT. The GM told me this was “usual practice”. With a yard FULL of cars this again is UNACCEPATBLE & unprofessional.
On the Monday, I receive forms to complete to sell the car. One was FDA52 – Vehicle License Duty. When I questioned what this was, I was told the dealership was claiming the stamp duty back that I PAID at the time of purchase & this money would be kept by the dealership.
This form asks if I am returning the vehicle for a refund or returning the vehicle for a replacement. It also asks: “Why was the vehicle returned? e.g. significant mechanical faults etc” It also asks you to declare “The vehicle has been returned for a full refund or replacement vehicle & the return is not the result of an agreement for the sale of the vehicle from the purchasers to the seller”. It also stated that the penalty for providing false or misleading information to the Commissioner of State Revenue was $20,000.
None of these questions applied & the sale of the car to Melville MG WAS a sale agreement & not a “refund” given MG had declined every refund request because the car had been fixed AND I was selling at $6K loss – NOT a refund. When I put this information in an email to the GM she ignored my request for reasoning to why I should/needed to sign it & simply said “Please sign the required forms by close of business today so we can arrange payment, alternatively please come & collect your car if you choose not to continue to sell your car to us.”
I collected my car since I refused to sign a form that I believed was false & misleading. I told the GM at collection that it was unethical to ask me to sign that form that clearly would include false & misleading information in order to sell my car & her response was “well we were taking a hit on buying the car from you”. I could not believe that the GM of Melville MG wanted me to sign a form that in my opinion contained false & misleading information (& she ignored my requests to explain anything to the contrary) for the financial gain of Melville MG.
So please, if after reading my story your gut is telling you to walk away from Melville MG & MG the brand please walk away!
