I have a new S5 and my backup car may be heading to retirement.
Is the MG 4 a good second car if the primary one is the S5.
I have no experience of the MG 4.
Any thoughts, suggestions and advice on what to look for or avoid would be appreciated.

I posted here as others here will have S5 experience and many seem to also have or have had an MG 4.

We have one as our only car!

I guess there are smaller ones out there if you want something a small two/four seater for urban driving (Dacia Spring, Leapmotor T, Citroen Ami, Smart FourTwo).

Perhaps a few cheaper ones as well (Renault Zoe?).

But overall I don't see why not. Tends to be the best value car out there second hand.

If I had two cars, I would deffo make the other one ICE, for occasional long journeys.

But everyone's needs are different.
I bought an MG5 in 2021 but my wife was still using the Octavia. We never needed to use it for a long trip so bought another second hand MG5 a few months ago.

I don’t need an ICE car for long journeys.

I’ve done Scotland to Cornwall and back in my previous EV, and plan to do Scotland to Anglesey this weekend in the MGS5.

I liked my MG4 and the only reason I changed it for the MGS5 was because of my knees and I needed something a little higher and easier to get into.

If you are buying second hand get it from an approved MG dealer so you know the warranty is still valid and hopefully the software has been updated.

We got our MG4 18 months ago on a PCP deal to see if electric was for us. Our other car was a Ford Focus estate for long journeys.

On Monday I exchanged my Focus for a S5. Long trips are no longer a concern. Yes, plan when/where to recharge but apart from a couple of barren areas, it's just too easy.

We won't keep the 4 when the PCP deal ends as the balloon payment is more than the current value of the car but we may look at something smaller for those local trips.

Overall id say it's a good car for a run about (and more) be really picky when road testing any potential options, check the safety systems, on a variety of roads/speeds, heater etc there are loads on the used market so make sure you pick a good one, no need to take just anything. Picking a good dealer is probably just as if not more important.
