BMS Question for Monday 25th - Is it foreseen that all cars registered Nov 2020 onwards will have the faulty BMS software, even though for now at least everything might look good, given the dealer at PDI, should have updated evertyhing to the latest software?

I have the mg5 picked up Jan 21 I have read on here battery voltage on full charge should be 455v mine only registers 395v and range seems to drop pretty quick even on short low speed journeys , could this be the faulty update , please any ideas ?

Just wondered if it was a common thing as it's a problem possibly with the battery.

ZS battery voltage parameters are completely different from the 5. A full battery on the 5 gives somewhere in the very low 400 volt range. I've had no issues.

Stuart,
Firstly, I think that the podcast is great - thanks for all the effort.
As you know, we always have masses of questions, debates and frustrations on the forum around battery voltages and battery range. My questions are more about perception and adding value - if you have time.
1/Do we really need to know what the HV battery voltage is? Why is this information even available? Is it driving unnecessary owner concerns or is it a useful thing to have? (one member was irate with MG and really upset because he was 3v less than he expected) The same can be asked about the low voltage gauge - do we need it? is this just something else that can confuse and concern an owner unnecessarily?
2/The displayed range on the MG is very ’honest’ in my opinion - based on achievable range - based on historic data. Again this causes no end of debate. I can see why Tesla for example just stick with the WLTP to calculate the figure shown on their battery range - it’s far simpler, if less ‘honest’. Should MG have done this?
3/and finally! Do MG have a customer feedback process or perhaps a working group including consumers to gain user feedback and help improve future products?
thanks again

Hi All,
The weekly podcast is great. I am getting a lot out of it and enjoy the discussion. In line with Cocijo comments do MG have a formal method with the dealers for acquiring voice of customer? Can you also assign a week with the infotainment system as a feature topic? I hear a lot of negative comments but any tips that forum has for getting the best out of it. Any hacks for Apple Car Play because it has to be plugged in. Also perhaps a session on aftermarket accessories both MG original and non-original, for example I bought 4 sill guards direct from China because MG only do the front doors, light bulbs are always a hot topic with some folk replacing the lot! Post Covid can we have a nerdy meet up - BMS and charging network dependent!
Keep up the great work - the MG gang are pioneers of low cost EV for the masses - we are trail blazers!
All the best from a wintry Northamptonshire.

A quick question for the podcast if you have time. Does pressing the P on the ZS engage an additional parking lock (transmission lock) like on a conventional automatic gearbox? Or is there only the parking brake holding the car when parked?

Thanks for all the good work guys. Can I raise a question about the BMS on the ZS please? My dealer insists that only certain vehicles within given VIN ranges will require this update. While cars with older BMS versions may not experience the same loss of range experienced by owners with late 2020 versions of BMS, surely the latest version is required to allow timed charging without impacting range or requiring many hours to balance battery?

If car not been in garage recently surely it won't have the fix to deal with timing issue? To balance I'd imagine you would need to run battery pretty low before recharging on granny or fast charger? The longer you leave it before doing this the bigger the problem might be and the greater number of rebalancing charges will be required to get back to normal.

Hi chaps.
I have had my Zs since the end of October after driving a Leaf for 4 years. I always relied on the percentage graphic on the dash. Could you tell me there a way to see the percentage display the battery while the car not charging. I hate the the band of lights on the bottom of the power gauge

I agree - it needs to be more specific - it is misleading at the moment. The warranty is really mostly 12months to 36months on many items with only battery and motor 7 years.

You could argue that this is misrepresented of marketing as your not presented with any of these details and therefore if or when the time came, personally I would consider legal action if needed.

Thats all .....not very.....good news to me.

In my mind, a 7 year warranty is a 7 year warranty! It was on my last new Kia.

If push came to shove I'd get solicitors on the job, you can be sure of that.

Agreed...nothing mentions referring to a data sheet and I wasn’t presented anything prior to or post purchase....
