This morning I tried to start my car. A MG HS PHEV. I did everything I usually do.
I had parked the car in my garage the previous night. I pressed the start button the display came up and messaged free up the steering wheel. Even though the steering wheel was straight and the wheels were straight. The gearshift would not go into Drive or Reverse, only Park and Neutral. The car would not turn off, when I tried to select reverse or drive the same message came up 'free up the steering wheel"
I selected neutral and pushed the car out of the garage, the same old message came up.
I left the car for 5 or 10 minutes. Then I tied turning the car off. Success It turned off then I tried turning it on. Success.

Who's has had this problem, or similar?

maybe 12V battery problems? you can check it with the engine not running to see the voltage.

I had a similar problem this morning... I drove to a park in the city and when I decided to go back home, when I pressed the brake and the start button, all the systems started showing problems. Hill assist system, handbrake, etc etc... the gearbox wasn't working... when trying to shift into reverse or D, it said to press the brake or the button on the side of the gear selector... I turned the car off and on about ten times and everything remained the same... I called roadside assistance who arrived to tow my car in approximately 10 minutes. When I turned on the car to show the mechanic the problem, the car started normally. Does anyone have any idea what happened?

Had exactly the same problem once - completely freaked me out. The answer seems to be to turn the car off and on without putting your foot on the brake.
