MG UK Provide Courtesy Cars

On my 12v battery issues in early January, the car was in the garage for 3 days, I had a small Citroën EV, possibly a C3, it was awful to drive and the range abusmal, but it provided a means of getting around.
I really struggle to understand anyone wanting to buy one 🤣😂
This means if that happened again, you should at least get an equivalent level of vehicle to drive rather than the cheapest s**tbox (assuming you used MG Assist).

Luxury. I had a Fiat 500 hybrid. What a gutless tin box.

I used to get an old MG3 (horrible car to drive), then they gave out MG ZS Hybrid+ cars, which were much better but had that strange motor-revs-to-maintain-charge behaviour. With my dealership drowning in demo models, probably now I might even get an IM! But I prefer to do the while-u-wait appointments, saves being stuck in the rush hour traffic.

And I think they were trying to tell me something...

I narrowly missed out on the New MGS6 as a loan car, it was available until it was diverted to a new branch which had just opened and their demonstrator hadn't arrived. 🤞:cry:

Just wanted to post an update to this thread and comment that this seems to be "working (more or less) as advertised".

MY MG S5 suffered the drained 12v battery 4 times in fewer weeks and, after much investigation by my dealer, MG agreed a new T-Box should be fitted. As of today, it has been with the dealer for 3 weeks as the new box fails repeatedly to code to the car or the car to it. Initially the dealership loaned me a car, an MG3 Hybrid+, nice to drive but not nice to have to spend over £100 over the three weeks on petrol! So, given that MG Technical Level 2 are now involved in attempting to sort out my S5 but with no resolution immediately in sight, I asked the dealer if the loan hybrid car could be swapped for a 100% electric.

They took this up with MG and the result was that MG have agreed to fund a hire car, it arrives this afternoon!

One slight hiccup was avoided during the process: the email from Switch Thrifty, MG's supplier, said the car should be an MG but that no EVs were available so would be a Hybrid! In a phone call to them I pointed out that this would be of no benefit to me at all! Subsequently, they rang back and said they had located an EV at a different branch.

I've now learned I am to take delivery of a BYD Sealion (clearly, not an MG) within the next hour or so! I will update this when I have anything further to report!

For other owners who might be offered this "service", three things to be aware of: Thrifty require a £50 refundable deposit and a "clean" licence prior to delivery; any additional driver is charged £10 per day; and there is a mileage limit of 700 miles per week.

Well my ZS EV has had a T box warranty issue for 5 months. Six months on the 7th May. It has been to EMG 6 times. The last time i.e. now they have had it 6 weeks, 7 on Thursday.

MG UK couldn't fix it. We have been waiting nearly a week for China to advise what to do.
I hope yours is less of a pain in the arse.

MG UK CS don't seem bothered and I have EMGs courtesy car for 6 weeks now.

We had a problem when the electric handbrake would not release on the N/S/R on our ZS EV on a Saturday morning, a few years ago now.
The A.A. ( MG Assistance ) attended pretty quickly and the agent managed to release the brake.
The car was then able to be driven carefully straight to the local dealers about lunch time.
All of the workshop staff had now gone home.
I called on the Monday and explained the situation.
The dealer spoke to the MG CS after sales team, who was needed to authorise a hire car from a local company called Enterprise.
By the Tuesday diner time, they had located the fault and been authorised to order the replacement parts by MG.
Then on Wednesday afternoon a Peugeot 3008 ICE was delivered to my home address, as they had no EV’s available.
Both parts arrived after about a three week wait and the dealer was instructed by MG CS to install the parts at the very first opportunity.
This was the following day and I collected the car later the same day.
The hire company was told by MG CS to collect the car that very same day !.
By tea time the car had gone.
We had the hire car for almost a month in total and therefore the hire cost would have been expensive.
The cost of the replacement parts totalled less than £300 pounds if I remember correctly, plus a couple of hours of labour time.
The long wait time on two inexpensive parts, was the cause of the high price of the hire car costs.

In Theory 7 years. 🤷‍♂️
The press release isnt clear but I suspect it's only the first year?

"MG Assistance is available on MG vehicles throughout the warranty period. After the initial one year of cover, provided when purchasing a new MG"

It's available for the whole of the warranty period which suggests to me it's a chargeable option.

Knowing MG, John you probably right.
One can but, hope. 🙄😉🙂👍

I read that to be that the warranty is extended each time a service is done and therefore so is MG Assistance.

'Following on from your initial year's roadside assistance, when you take your car back to your MG dealer for every subsequent scheduled service, if you choose the option, you will receive a further 12 months’ MG Assistance free.'

As I understand it the warranty is for 7 years as long as the car is serviced to MG's specifications using MG parts.

If the car is serviced by an MG authorised dealer MG Assistance is renewed for another 12 months.

After 7 years the warranty has expired but if the car continues to be serviced by an MG dealer so does MG Assistance.

But what about :-
Following on from your initial year's roadside assistance, when you take your car back to your MG dealer for every subsequent scheduled service, if you choose the option, you will receive a further 12 months’ MG Assistance free.'

What option? it isnt really clear in my view, I would interpret that to mean if you choose the assistance option at whatever cost you get the assistance service. Knowing what MG are like it seems too good to be true that they will honour the warranty and courtesy cars for 7 years, especially on a like for like basis. It seems completely out of character.

"the option" is whether or not you choose to have it serviced at a MG dealer not whether or not you have MG Assistance.
