What are the faults of a MG Motor UK Mg5
115kW Exclusive EV 53kWh 5dr Auto 2021 with high mileage of 74,000 miles.
I am about to buy one and what are the common errors or problems users find.
They my not bother me or may be important to not to buy

I have a 2012 SR Excite on 72k. Few issues with the radio module. Probably won't work on a Tesla super charger.
I bought a second hand 2022 LR Exclusive with 23k on it. It works a treat on a supercharger.

Just sold my 2021 MG5 after 4 years of ownership and I wouldn't say there were any faults worth mentioning. Remember it still has 3 years of warranty remaining (or in your case, however long it takes you to cover 6k miles).

Check that the drivers seat is ok and not collapsed.
74k says it's probably an ex lease company car, if so it will have been serviced regularly and the mileage isn't an issue. With the standard range (53kw battery / 48 useable) if the battery's in good condition you should get as much as 220-230 miles in summer down to 140 when it's below freezing.
Don't overload the back end, it's front wheel drive and there's already not enough weight at the front.
I did just shy of 100k in my standard range MG5 with only one fault and that was probably my fault. Just passed 100k in my long range model with no issues at all.

The only critisism I have is front tyre wear is a bit higher than I would expect.
Same problem as my Saab 99 turbo I use to own , too much power through the front wheels.
In damp slippery condition always keep in Eco mode to reduce wheel spin
Otherwise great car. I intend to run mine for at least 10 years (4.5 years and counting)

Only a couple of minor niggles with mine, namely that the automatic lights and wipers sometimes have a mind of their own, but of course there's also a physical switch so not a life changing issue in the grand scheme of things. First new car I've had that hasn't had to go back for anything, so I'm also planning on keeping it for the long haul. It's nothing exciting, but does everything I need it to with minimum fuss.

I plan on keeping mine for a good 7 years..
I value pan roof, adaptive cruise with auto braking, camera, Bluetooth, sat navall three cars have them.
So the real differentiator is mileage vs price vs warranty:
  • Best long-term / lowest risk2021 (71 reg) £11,450, 20k miles. You’ll likely save on future repairs and battery longevity.
  • Best cheap deal now2020 (70 reg) £8,705, 66k miles. But higher risk of battery degradation, suspension wear, interior wear.
  • Best balance2020 (20 reg) £9,638, 48k miles. £933 more than the 70-plate, but 18k fewer miles = healthier car.

  • 2021 (71 reg) — £11,450, 20k miles
    • Newest car, lowest mileage.
    • Will have the most warranty left.
    • Likely best long-term reliability (battery degradation slower at 20k vs 66k).
      – Most expensive (£2.8k–£2.7k more).
  • 2020 (70 reg) — £8,705, 66k miles
    • Cheapest upfront.
    • Same spec (pan roof, ACC, AEB, sat nav, etc.).
      – High mileage for an EV of this age, so more wear & tear + potential faster battery degradation.
      – Shortest remaining warranty time.
  • 2020 (20 reg) — £9,638, 48k miles
    • Middle ground: still cheaper than the 2021, but much lower mileage than the 66k car.
    • Full feature set same as others.
      – About £1k more than the 70-plate, but ~18k fewer miles — arguably better value.

Does the 2021 model because the extra ~£3,000 buys me much lower mileage and more warranty — which pays off long-term. is it worth the £3000 extra?

The inner panel of the bonnet, around the pressed holes usually rusts.

The sills can rust due to a total lack of any protective sealant/stone chip protection, they are finished just in plain paint that gets chipped off, so mudflaps are a must to stop most of the stone damage risk.

It has an unusually high floor, so Getting in can seem strange as when you step in over the sill your foot doesn't go down very far into the footwell which is almost as high as the sill, or maybe it's just me!

The left foot rest is at an high angle that can make your ankle ache on longer journeys.

The windscreen washer hoses can pop apart in cold weather at joints behind the drivers side A pillar trim and under the tailgate trim. Tie wrapping these joints will cure this, but if much water leaks from the A pillar one before it's spotted, a control box underneath the drivers side footwell area trim can get soaked and cause multiple control issues.

Otherwise they seem to be pretty indestructible and can do huge mileages with virtually no mechanical issues to speak of.
