Hi all, apologies if this has been covered before. I noticed today that on braking (not particularly abruptly) but slowing down close to the car in front that was at a standstill, that I could see in the reflection of the car in front my hazards were flashing quickly like three times, then stopped, yet nothing showed inside the car to indicate that was happening nor was there a warning displayed of any kind. I was not signalling to go anywhere. On my MG Pilot I have things like front collision assist switched off etc, am I being thick, what is it? Is this a known thing, i.e to warn a car in front you are leaving braking late etc? Does it also flash at the back?

Sorry just seen someone posted about this very thing only this morning! What I’m confused about is there was no one behind and I had front and rear collision warning off. Why wouldn’t it warn you inside rather than just flash hazards briefly outside?

It’s possible, but I think most snow has long been washed away in my area. Just trying to figure out the point of the flashing hazards though? I was lucky to even see them, I think they just confuse other drivers.

I have had recurring examples of this, I can tie it to blind spot warning, either that or the blind spot indicator is associated with the flash, but I paid attention last time and indeed a car was overtaking.

I do not know in my circumstances if this is intended, or if software error. I mean I don't think it standard behaviour for hazards to flash if someone overtakes you or a blind spot warnings are enged, you know to signal to the car you are there, that's just not typical that I can see. I therefore determined it error.

It only does it once every so often, in fact it hasn't done it in weeks, but again in my instances it's always when blind spot is activating.

It's the rear collision warning (page 270 owner's manual). If a car approaches too quickly from behind it flashes the indicators to warn the following driver you have stopped or are moving slowly. Unfortunately it can also be triggered by traffic in adjoining lanes.
