MGS5 safety software fault - recall level problem? (reverse after hard stop; merged)

...so at least we have documentation for use after a child in a buggy dies.

No doubt, after the children are killed, there will be an inquiry and "lessons will be learned"…

We had to do an emergency stop today while using one pedal drive and I am happy to say this didn't happen for us. I had been meaning to test it out and see if we had the issue but never got around to it. Today we was forced into it - 100% brake at around 40mph and it came to a complete stop, auto held and no roll back.

So it seems it isn't a problem with every car.

Hi all, I have had my MGS5 a week and I stumbled upon this issue quite by accident today. I almost rolled into someone behind, but as commented, it was more than a roll, it was being powered backwards. I think the mention of applying the brake, and most people wouldn’t take their foot off is a slight red herring. In my case I was using OPD and the car had come to a stop by virtue of me taking my foot off the accelerator and slowing down well in advance of reaching the car in front. Once stopped it went backwards and I had to quickly reach for the brake, this isn’t good enough and needs resolving without delay. Is there a fix? In addition, has anyone else had issues with auto high beam assist? Mine won’t work half the time and when it does I get nothing but horns, because it is either too slow to dip or sometimes puts the beam on when moving cars are coming past!

I have it happen on a very regular basis. I still forget between times.

DVSA have told us they don't care. I guess we just wait for a fatality or two...

So we have to pay to have it investigated by an MG approved repairer, and as someone says, they then mark their own homework! Unacceptable. Surely if enough of us raise an issue under warranty they will have to provide a fix?

It was also reported in a Dutch review, though it was a downhill related stop. Not an emergency stop. But the reason is the same.

Imagine if someone was walking behind your car at the time crossing the road thinking you had gone past. Also whose fault is it when you reverse into the car behind... I can't see anyone being convinced by "Sorry not my fault, it's a quirk with the car".
