Hi all,

Today, I test drove an MGS6. Great car! I did have some trouble with Android Auto, in several S6's that were at the dealership. The sales representative had the same problem with his S26 Ultra (I have an S25). We both tried this wirelessly.

Here's what happened 9 out of 10 times: when starting a voice command (either from the mic on the screen or from the steering wheel), the system bleeped, the microphone 'turned on' for 1/2 second, then turned off, and did not register anything. A few times it DID work, but right after it was bad again. Restarting my phone, clearing the Android Auto cache etc. did not help.

My S25 with Android Auto works fine on my current car (Skoda Enyaq).

Given that we had the issue in the S6 with two Android phones (S25 and S26), and both of those phones work well on other cars, it seems likely the issue is in the MGS6. Any idea how to solve this?

Not quite sure what you are trying to do, but the button on the steering wheel is for giving voice commands to the car, and has nothing to do with android auto or Apple carplay, afaik.

When you press the steering wheel button long, it will start the voice command listening of Android Auto.

But that is not the issue I am having trouble with: I cannot ask Android auto to for instance navigate to home. Or call person X. This is very essential for handsfree driving! The microphone starts but stops right away. Born pressing the mic on screen or using the trick above.

Genuinely didn't know that. I never use it anyway, because it's just a hassle. Most of the time they don't understand what you say and they are generally pretty useless. Takes less time to just find a place to stop and do things on the screen.

On my current car, the Android Auto voice commands work great. It always understand what I am saying when asking for directions, calling someone, etc. This is how it should be on any modern car.

If every contact was called John or Peter, yes. But not with a lot of Norwegian names. It just doesn't work, so I don't bother. Would imagine Dutch wasn't any better, but apparently not.
