Motorsport season is not far off. Anyone interested? Personally I don't mind F1 but sometimes think it's a bit up itself. When I had me Merc, I always wanted Merc to win. Unfortunately MG haven't got an F1 team. So last year I was shouting for McLaren, particularly coz they race in Orange. 🙄😉 But much prefer the BTCC Championship More down to earth, and you can relate to it more. Anyone else follow motorsport? Car's or Bikes. EV or ICE. 🙂👍

McLarens 2026 F1 car. 🙂👍

Hard to find any EV related racing of any type, the powers that be have the motor racing viewers convinced that, if it doesn't belch fire and noise, it isn't a proper race car.
Every so often, you get to see EV against ICE in different types of racing, the bikes are always interesting, although the races are still short, drag racing in the drag and drive category where they drive the car they race on public roads between events, no back up vehicle, just what you carry with you, or you have to drive to get what ever part you need ..... always interesting but rare to find channels that show the EV entrees, especially since the Lucid Saphire has entered events last yr .....
I'm waiting to see someone with the $$ to fit the full roll cage and parachutes to attempt the faster classes, with maybe a bit of weight loss and computer tuning ....

The season has already started. I've been watching Formula E . Unfortunately it's hidden away on ITV4 and as they show it live the time varies so I often miss it.

I used to enjoy watching rallycross on World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon.

Yep, don't mind Formula E. But would be interesting to have a one make EV series.
Like they do with ICE Minis, Clios etc.
Say X Power's or Renault Alpine. Can't see it, but would be good. Definitely go and watch, if it came to Oulton Park, which is closest to me. 🙂👍

I'd love to watch the X Power equivalent of the old Group B 6R4 rally.

Mind you, I'd miss the incredible noise those V6 lumps made!

It had a 3 litre engine, with 24 valves and 410 bhp.

Ric Wood is local to us and has fixed an issue with our car in the past. He is a fascinating chap, racing, designing and building racing cars, including the 6R4 featured on CarSOS.
He reckons the 6R4 will do 2.5s to 60, which will beat the pants off an X Power! But they were very light.

Those modded Metros were incredible machines!

Note to Mrs S...For my 60th, can I have one of these please?

At the risk of showing my age, I used to follow the Tom Walkinshaw Jaguar racing team in the 1980s with annual trips to Le Mans. Couldn't afford a Jaguar then but 1988 was the year that the Jaguar XJR-9LM, piloted by Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace, finally beat the Porsches.
I also used to follow VSCC racing with regular trips to Oulton Park watching real racing drivers in real racing cars wearing flying jackets and a big grin with their elbows outside the car's bodywork.
I had a spell as a saloon car racer in an Astra GTE with a couple of wins and no departures from the track but it was a rich person's sport, even back then, so my racing experience was short-lived.
I have restored a few old cars such as a 1961 Mini Cooper, a 1964 Triumph TR4, a 1968 Lotus Elan and a 1970 Ford Cortina 1600E. My current projects are a 1949 Alvis TA14 and a 1999 Jaguar XKR.
Having had a succession of 4WD Audis and BMWs, I would love to see a one-model championship for the MG4 X-Power but the weight of the batteries will be an issue with braking and tyre life.
To be honest, rather like the electronic wizardry controlling most new road cars, I find F1 a bit tedious with telemetry controlling the car and the driver adjusting the speed and the steering!

Agree an X Power championship would be great. But will never happen. More likely a Renault Alpine EV championship.
Do like like F1 but as I've said, it's a bit up itself, and definitely a rich man's sport.
Where it can be who ya know, or who's Daddy is the wealthiest, and talent comes second. Much prefer BTCC where talent does count and is much more down to earth. 🙂👍

Yes but hill climbs for me. Not just because one of the oldest is right here a mile from me. Jackie Stewart and Jim Clarke raced here.
