New food waste collection

Exactly the same for us, which started last year. Not had any update yet re. a new permit.

Most annoying thing about all of the recycling bins and buckets we have is the person who specified them has never encountered a weather phenomenon called wind.

Elasticated tarp type covers don't work, canvas bags (for light material like plastic and tin) have no chance and once they have all been emptied they all become street ornaments for miles around. Not to mention being dangerous when lying in the middle of the road.

Japanese Knotweed is a nightmare. When I worked for the Council, we had to deal with JK, if left unchecked it would take over huge areas. It usually took about 5 years to get rid of it. It's actually illegal to cut it down, but obviously that wouldn't stop some. Funnily enough it was brought over by the Victorians as a nice ornamental plant, what a mistake that was.

Sheep ! we had Japanese Knotweed here when we took over the property ( 60m sq ) the sheep love it . Cut down and munched , as soon as it re-appears its gone . Took around three years and it finally got the message .

Tout bien . Although with a curry I tend to overload it with ginger , garlic and tikka powder so any other flavour is overwhelmed.

We have a bin, and we had to fight to get it, being a commercial property, the council didn't think we deserved one We have to pay the rubbish contractor mob to get it collected.
Garden waste costs by the trailer load at the tip, about $26 I think, but we ran all out stuff through the chipper/mulcher, what we could use, the neighbours all lined up with wheelbarrows to take it off our hands

The house finally got a rubbish bin service, before that, we had 12 tokens a yr we could use at the waste collection depot.
The glass bottles and aluminium cans are worth 10c each at the recycling depot, so I'm drinking my way to a new XPower

At the house, we had a tumbler composting bin, black, got hot enough to steam in summer, even in winter you could feel the heat when you unlocked the lid (needed to be locked to tumble it) never had a problem with any of the weeds making a return appearance, but lots of pumpkin and tomato plants ..... and chilly plants, those little red suckers that burn the skin off if the juice gets into a scratch or cut, left to shrivel and dry on the bush just made them even stronger

Aberdeenshire Council. . . .

The new orange-lid bins are for metal tins, cans, aerosols and foil, food and drink cartons, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays.

How much does this one cost you @Archev, I think it's scandalous charging for garden waste collections on top of our Council Tax.

Derby City council started to charge for the garden waste collection bin and after a two years realised very few were paying for it, everybody else just put the garden waste into the general purpose bin. It's now a free fortnightly collection.
