@salty is cutting down his options on where he's welcome in the UK. He's insulted Derbyshire and now Scotland. No wonder Yorkshire got pissed off with the Lancasterians in the War of the Roses
Well I was born in Lancashire, and live in Yorkshire, so @salty will be welcome in Yorkshire. 😊

You know I'm only joking, love you all. 😍😉🙂👍

Food waste has also been collected for years in my part of the world.
I use biodegradable liners for the caddy.
Yes. We get a roll of biodegradable caddy liners from the council every year. They have got smaller over the years, so we do buy extra now, also biodegradable. But they go in the green wheelie bin here in Stockport, along with garden waste.

We now pay for green waste which we never did before, £59 pa, but if you just want to put food waste out every week, it's free.

The other bins are black (non-recyclable), brown (plastics*, tins and bottles) and blue (paper and card, including Tetrapaks etc).

For years, I have written to the council complaining that they originally only took plastic bottles. "If it's bottle-shaped, we take it".

I wrote to complain (Mr Angry from Stockport!) and said it didn't make sense because all the bottle-shaped objects were made of many different plastic types, why wouldn't they accept other items made of these plastics that weren't bottle-shaped?

They told told me they weren't set up to do this (???) but now they accept plastic meat containers, plastic veg boxes (like mushroom boxes), yogurt pots etc, just nothing thin.

Or bottle tops, which they didn't accept before.

So there's still lots of plastic going in the black bin, unless I can find somewhere local to take bags, cling film, bottle tops etc...

And SMBC have the gall to moan that its residents are not recycling enough.

The same moan at the tip, sorry, recycling centre.

There, you have to separate everything and put it in the correct skip so help you ... It's not too much of a chore, but often, places are not clearly labelled. The people there don't seem very helpful, but sure love to yell at you if you put something in the wrong place.

Rant over...

All these different bins, colours, for various things, no wonder it does not work.

But, the government (UK) has a cunning plan. Bins of the same colour AND use for all. What could possibly go wrong 🤔
Hang on - I’m working on that list 🤣

Those sages of rock n roll AC/DC must have had a premonition when they wrote " Bin city " .
Just waiting for the various councils to hand out bins in competition to "Pure cremations ", not a new idea , re- hashed from the plague years, but less personnel.

The most confusing one for me is Rushmoor (NE Hampshire).

They decided on green wheelie bins for general waste.

When they later introduced recycling green was not available so they used blue.

Everywhere else uses green for recycling so I just automatically put recycling in the wrong bin when visiting.

No forward planning there.

Ahh, the red zone and the white zone...

Here is the ultimate bin, you can't get it wrong

All in one bin.webp

The Wollongong city council installed a rubbish sorting and recycling line at the big land fill site rubbish tip. They also installed a methane extraction pump that fuelled electrical generator that powered the site .... one of the govt pilot programs .....
That meant, all the rubbish sorting into separate bins, was for nothing, because they all went into the same sorting line. They started collecting all the bins with the one truck, that really upset the recycling fanatics, so, it the end, there are 3 different trucks that pick up each bin on different weeks, so you still end up sorting the recycling because it won't all fit in the half size general waste bin they swapped out for the full size bin .... no discount of the rates, but you paid more to have it collected weekly rather than fortnightly, and more again if you wanted a big bin, but that only got collected fortnightly .... if you think you are confused, those trying to use the 3 bin system didn't seem to understand at all.

On the other hand, the rubbish contractor thought this was a great system, they get paid for three rubbish collections, all but the green waste went to the same place, and they owned/operated the rubbish sorting plant.

You still got fined if you put general garbage in the recycling bin .... it dirtied the truck and load, so had to be pressure washed clean

If you want total confusion, put a straight forward task to a committee to sort the operating system .....

Drives you blinking nuts, doesn't it?!
Mine don't do that .... maybe a case of too much information

The thing is, put the council in a scale a step above the women's aux at school and maybe hovering around the level of office social club .... they at least have other people's money to play with .....

This helps to understand how such a dysfunctional arrangement can be self perpetuating .... it takes a special kind of person to even want a position of authority in a such a pit of vipers ..... they aren't particularly good at new and inventive solutions .... anyone who puts one forward is clearly just trying to climb to a high level of incompetence and needs to be knocked down a peg or three ....

Let's look at what other councils did, we won't make the same mistakes because we can do it better .... or at least hide the mess until we have climbed to a higher level of incompetence and pass the blame onto the one with the clever idea that you just promoted into your vacant position ....
A) if they can fix it, you get the glory of being a visionary who could see a perfect fit for the job you had handles so well yourself
B) if it crashes into a total mess, well, it worked fine when you were running it .......

Easy to see how the right-hand leaning side of politics learnt the trade eh

The left learnt it on the workshop floor, finally mastering the art of wielding a knife without getting spot of blood on themselves ........

Independents are masters of forming committees yet never actually being involved in them, therefore, the lack of decision making is not their fault, but they will start another committee to look into the findings, and this time, add a sub committee to oversee just what the oversight committee is doing to come up with an answer .....
