New grant for charger install (Scotland)

For those without on site access a new grant is available for things like installing cross pavement guttering.

New Government pilot scheme to make electric vehicles more accessible

Homes in East Lothian, Renfrewshire, Perth and Kinross will have access to a £3500 grant under new pilot scheme.

This is great news for those that don't have a drive. I assume that the actual charge point is as close to the pavement as possible to keep the length/size of cable within practical parameters

Thinking about many of the places I’ve visited especially when I was working. Some streets were constantly full of cars coming in and out. Parking was hotly contested then. What’s going to happen when two or three or more are marked off for private ev charging?

I think it's horses for courses. Choose the right streets to install these things.

You'd hope to be parking in front of your own building anyway so you'd not be blocking the street any more than you were before.

The right place is where you need it, out in front of your house/building.
This grant is intended to help pay for digging channels in pavements etc so you can use your own charger. not for the installation of the charger itself.

I know that, obviously. But not every street will be suitable for that. In my friend's case it has been long-standing practice in her street that everyone parks outside their own house, and people make an effort not to block anyone else's frontage. This is an ideal situation. However, streets where there is intense competition for parking and where people seldom manage to get the spot outside their own house are not going to be so easy to deal with, and it might be better not to include such streets at least in the first instance.

Yeah but I was meaning other folk parking in “your” space outside your house with your lifeline. Like being iced in your spot.
