Hello,
Collected our new HS Hybrid+ Trophy today. Probably the last new car we plan to buy (retirement beckons), having driven our faithful manual Ford C-Max for 223k miles in just over 13 years from new. As you might appreciate, this now presents me with a boat-load of features and functions that are new and different, weird and wonderful.
My first question: Which forum is the right one to search and post in for the HS Hybrid+?

To the forum. Enjoy your new motor.
It'll be like the Starship Enterprise, compared to your old, C-Max. 🙂👍

Hello @PedroXXL, welcome to MGEVs, this is the new MG HS Hybrid+ forum, and I've moved your post into the forum, thanks.
Thank you so much.
Early days with the car, but so far so good. 🙂 Still got the "whose car is that on our drive?" feeling! 🤣

It is terrific to drive. In years past, I would have been out driving everywhere and nowhere, just for the fun, but I'm older and wiser now (yeah, right!). 🙂

Plenty of things are puzzling or unfamiliar, but we are learning lots, and resources like this site are super useful.

Some initial musings follow. Some are, or might be, Hybrid+ specific, others might be more generic. Knowing exactly which aspects of MG HS are exactly the same on the Hybrid+ as on, say, the PHEV is hard for a newbie, the arrival of the Hybrid+ seems to have surprised MG staff as much as it has the car-reviewing community.

Spare Wheel
Pondering whether to look at getting a space-saver spare wheel. In the 13 years of living with no spare on the C-Max we had four occasions where not having a spare was a costly inconvenience. The space under the "floor" in the HS's boot looks like it might take one but I think I am right in saying MG don't consider them worth offering as an option (in fact the only official brochure-listed accessory for the Hybrid+ is "mats"), so it would have to be a 3rd-party one if I got one.

Locking wheel nuts
Surprised to have no locking wheel nuts either, does no-one steal 19" alloys? Can't decide if I need to look into it...one of those things I can't say was worth having on the C-Max; did they actually deter anyone over the years, who knows?

Dashcam power
I see that some MGs now have a USB in the behind-rearview-mirror box to make dashcam connection easy. Sad to see the HS Hybrid+ didn't get that (yet).

Mobile data
I get how the car needs a built-in mobile SIM for connected services like SatNav and SOS call (the latter of which might become the button I worry about most when grandchildren are in the car!) but the notion of using that SIM to provide a WiFi Hotspot for other things in the car is baffling. Put 2 kids in the car with tablets and a voracious appetite for video and what happens to that SIM's mobile data usage?
What is the expected use case for having the car's HotSpot?
I can set the car's WiFi connection to my home WiFi (which will only connect on the driveway) but if I were to set that to connect to, say, tether off my personal phone's data...would the car hotspot use that instead of the built-in SIM for the built-in stuff too?

iSmart App
The iSmart app, is currently a novelty gimmick, raising more questions than answers. I know there's separate threads for the thing. Discovering that "Sterling Silver" is called "Cashmere Sliver" (yes, "sliver") somewhere in the world was amusing. The game of trying to add a family secondary account will no doubt go on for a while. It's also funny to see the app report the internal temperature of the car to be -10°C on a UK July afternoon! 🥶 It's a short step from the above points to having to look out the window to make sure that "locked" on the app screen means that the car is, in fact, locked.

Lots of fun ahead!

Edit: added headings, it was a bit of a ramble, sorry

Hi, Pedro. Glad your enjoying your new motor. A space saver spare is definitely worth considering. Wouldn't bother with locking wheel bolts. Never used i-smart, and don't miss it, at all. But each to there own, as always. 🙂👍
