There are faster cars, have been for a long time but they're usually very high priced - so they're usually in the hands of people with more money than sense or (very) used...
It's all about the driver and their level of self control. Idiots will be idiots no matter what car you put them in. Being able to get up to an illegal speed quicker than most other cars isn't going to make any material difference, just shaves a few seconds off their idiocy.
