Poll: Why did you go EV?

What is your primary motivation for going electric?

  • Environmental (lower pollution/emissions, energy transition)

  • Better driving (faster acceleration, smoother, easier etc.)

  • Value (cheaper over the long run)

  • Technological progressivity (being ahead of the curve, being fashionable, having the best tech.)

  • A mixture of the above four with none dominating

  • Like the looks and shapes (more that EV drivetrain allows)

  • None - I didn't intend to get an EV it just happened by accident!

  • Other (please indicate in the comments)

I thought I would re-run an earlier poll we had 18 months later, now that we have a lot of new members.

People are encouraged to participate even if they participated in the original one!

I've been trying to lower our carbon footprint for a long time but a BEV was financially out of our reach, until the MG4 came along.
Now we are fully solar with house battery. I'm getting closer.
As a HUGE bonus, It's fantastic to drive, wife loves it (really her car).
Financial considerations are low on the list, at 81 this car will probably last us out, so resale value we don't think about.
I'm still driving my ICE surf-wagon to the beach, (not allowed to put roof racks on the MG).
But how much longer will I be windsurfing?

Doesn’t sound like any time soon. More power to your elbow - and all the other windy surfing bits 👍

I had always promised myself my first new car when I retired and the government was pushing the green agenda and the sale of new ICE cars would be banned in 2030.

Apart from being green and the performance of EVs, part of my thinking was that used EVs would be worth more than the equivalent ICE when I came to part-exchange it in a few years time.

Perhaps I should give up my sideline in predicting the future 😁

My other's:-
1. 10k money back from government.
2. My previous car was 7 years old, diesel, stinky but still in good nick and I wanted a new car.
3. I was getting fed up of changing gear.
4. Fell in love on the test drive.

I saw a tesla model s many years ago at a set of traffic lights, I was in awe of its silence which gave it an effortless getaway.
I upped the stakes and bought an mg5 .
5 years later I still love the effortless and near silent drive and would never go back.
Helping the environment and running cost is a welcome bonus.

I just like gadgets and saw my Gen 1 ZS EV as a new toy. 🚙 (also our only car, went all in)

The real reason was I had already driven many kms in the ex taxi Prius and it proved the electric side was more than capable, I also bought a second hand DIY plug in hybrid Prius and although it doesn't have the plug in pack anymore, we still drive that a lot.
It was off the road, I always wanted an EV, liked the salvage write off MG4 I'd already bought, and tried my luck suggesting it to the wife ..... she seemed agreeable, so while things were looking promising, we went and had a look at an ex demo, that turned out to just be one registered at the end of the yr so they could keep their sales numbers up, and the wife said yes, we drove it away two days later ......
Had the EV grin ever since
