Powering vehicle down

As the MGS5 doesn't have a power button to power the vehicle on or off is there a way for the vehicle to power itself down after a set time if I don't lock the vehicle, I had the annoying occurrence of forgetting to lock the vehicle after putting it in my garage recently only to find that the car was still powered up and the interior heater blasting away 3 hours later.

You can power down from the infotainment screen but it really is much easier to get into the habit of just locking the car.

Yes, I forgot to lock ours once and it was still open and running 3 hours later. In the meantime it had become dark, so it had helpfully switched the lights on, too. As Alb says, just get into the habit of locking it - and checking it by glancing at the mirrors to confirm.

From my experience I think you still have to lock the car to activate full power off. The infotainment screen option seems to turn off most of the systems but the radio, at least, is still on and "playing" until the car is locked.

I don't know whether, eventually, it does complete the full turn-off after using the infotainment screen option, I've never waited long enough.

If it did, you'd expect it to do it in under 3 hours, but @Amun 's didn't.

Agreed. But it's not clear, to me at least, whether @Amun had used the screen option before leaving the vehicle.

I haven't timed it, but if you power off the car by using the pull down menu on the infotainment, the radio does turn off a few minutes later. It will do this to save the 12v battery.

No, I didn't use the screen - I simply forgot to lock it.

Yes, just to be clear, using this option takes you out of READY mode so anything still running is being powered by the 12V battery alone
