Hello, everyone!

I’ve got a 2022 MG ZS EV SR (LFP). SOH is currently sitting at 89%.

I usually get around 320 km range when fully charged to 100%. But recently, I put a ski rack on (it’s winter here in New Zealand ❄️), did a long motorway trip down to 40%, and after charging back to 100%, the range estimate now shows only 260 km.

Is this kind of sudden drop normal? Or is the BMS just recalculating based on my recent energy usage?

Appreciate any insights — cheers!

What did you have on the rack? What speeds on the motorway?

It's all about drag, more stuff on the roof, higher speeds, al make the car work harder, so more power used and hence less range.
And yes the GOM estimates range based on your recent consumption.

If you remove the rack and drive slowly, the GOM estimate will go back up

My old D-Max had roof rails on both the roof and canopy and when I fitted 2 sets of cross bars my fuel usage went from 10L perkm to 11, that is a 10% increase so I would think a 10% increase of energy would be reasonable.

This is why most cars only have front to back bars.

I think you will find that the calculations done by the car are very dynamic and will be adjusted by your current usage probably down to the last km you have driven.

I found my old D-Max would change the distance to empty very quickly when I put the caravan on behind it.
