Hello everyone,

We just test drove the MG 3 Hybrid+ at the dealership today. Overall, we couldn’t really find much to fault, except for the somewhat delayed gear changes.

When accelerating with full throttle up to around 90 km/h, the engine revs quite high—too high, in our opinion—and only seems to shift gears at approximately 103 km/h.

City driving up to 70 km/h feels smooth, and highway driving at 120 km/h is also perfectly fine.

We mentioned the gear change behavior to the dealer, who acknowledged it and said it was normal, explaining that the car only has three gears. They also claimed the engine is capable of revving up to 9000 rpm.

However, I’ve heard that a software update exists which addresses this issue. The dealer wasn’t aware of it and said the car was still running on the factory firmware.

What are your thoughts?

Welcome to the forum.

There are other quite detailed threads and replies on this issue on this forum, and I'm going through the update process myself. It seems there are 2 updates available, and one basic (original) version that caused a sudden loss of power. Both the newer versions have thier own issues. The one mine has suffers the over revving, a previous version I had lost power on long steep hills. It seems a global update is due later this year. There are lots of updates posted on this forum regarding this issue as people find out more info, so keep watching!

wow 9000 rpm .... that would be the electromotor ? But that has nothing to do with the petrol engine over revving ?
