With the MG iSMART app capable of operating the A/C remotely it looks like something that will be used more frequently as the weather gets colder to warm the car before using.
Can any member clarify how this works. Does the app start the petrol engine to provide heat or is there a heater, either electric or fuel operated? If it requires the engine to start what is the legal position regards running a car engine unattended from a safety or pollution point of view, in the UK.
If the heater is electric which battery is used, hybrid or 12v which could have an effect on starting if the 12v is drained.
Can anyone help with an explanation Thanks

Hi according to the law a vehicle left idling and unattended is against the law regulation 98 of the road vehicles act that's for public roads , but if you have a driveway you can run it no problem. To run it go on the app set your climate heating to your required temperature then the car starts for ten minutes you can also put the heated seats on also and steering wheel if you want extra heat in your rear end 😁 also according to car insurance if car is stolen whilst left idling with the keys left in it your insurance will be void won't apply to your car because it's locked when it's running.

Thanks for your comprehensive reply on how to use the app for heating. I live in a first floor apartment overlooking our own, private carpark where we have designated car parking places. Mine is under my lounge window so I have a good view of my car. I suppose it would be a grey area in law but as the car will be in a private car park when the engine is running, not on a public road, in full view, ie underneath my window I could argue I meet the requirements. We will see what the winter brings and decide then whether to use the app, or to take the usual route in sitting in the car until the screen and windows clear. Thanks again

You will be fine it's a private carpark , I used my app this morning up here in Scotland I set the car to 23 degrees as it was only 2 degrees outside it worked a treat. Enjoy the app and car .
