S6 tail gate issue.

Just been out to the car as Ive had a similar experience over the last few days, boot does not open fully and sometimes doesn't shut without a helping push, but now, after doing absolutely nothing, no resets or recal etc, its all working fine, opening fully and shutting fully too 😂

After posting last Tuesday, one day after picking up the car, the issue is getting steadily worse. Now only opens to about one third, and manually pushing it open is now starting to be a bit of a struggle. The manual reset has never worked, and a couple of times I've had to push the tailgate to get it closed. Taking it back to the dealer this afternoon - will update when (hopefully) the issue is resolved. Rest of the car remains spot on.

Hmmm. So I take it to the dealer, get myself a coffee and 2 minutes later the mechanic walks over and says it's working properly. I don't believe him, we walk to the car and, you've guessed it, the bloody thing works perfectly. He swears blind that he'd done absolutely nothing to it. He did a fault diagnosis too - nothing. Sods law. Since the second day from purchase, it's never worked properly and the last couple of days it barely opened a third of the way, and I'd done all the tips and tricks to no effect. I'm using the car everyday, so I'll check it everyday even if I don't use the boot....but I'll bet my bottom dollar that in a few weeks or days it does it again. Rest of the car still perfect in every way.

Probably tempting fate a little, but am I the only one not to have had a tailgate opening issue (yet!!)?

Knew it. 3 days later and it's doing it again. Great. Back to the dealer it goes.

I've had this issue intermittently.
The first time, I resolved it by doing a factory reset on the infotainment system..which is a bit of a pain.
The second time, just after charging, it seemed to resolve itself after a couple of goes.
Regarding that reset process...
I did try that, but my tailgate immediately tries to close when I press the button, after pushing the boot to it's full height....

The factory reset has saved me going to the dealer on 2 occasions now, it's easy, but all saved settings have to be repeated.

It seems I too have the dreaded boot glitch. Last evening I opened the boot after a 70 miles journey and it will only open 3/4 of the way up. When it closes it does so with a clumsy thump and not the smooth grasping action it usually does. I've tried changing the settings in the menu to low mid, high and each time it gives a beep from the boot area. I've also tried to position it manually and press the close button for 5 seconds. It seems to recognise the action with a confirmation sound, but then carries on with the same problem. Will try a factory reset tomorrow, otherwise back to the dealer for a tinker.

Sooo, after multiple attempts to reset the boot and the system, as MG can't look at it until later in April. Manually lifting the boot then manually closing it today seemed to fix the issue. ***.

Mine is working perfectly today! Well except for the fact that the boot lid closed and hit me gently on the head whilst I was loading the shopping into the boot at ASDAs earlier today. I assume my feet must have triggered it as I moved back and forth between the shopping trolley and the car 😂

Well the issue has returned and this time doing the reset procedure has is not sorting it I'm having to close the boot lid manually to get it to lock and a new quirk that the physical button to open it does not seem to be working, although the key fob and foot wiggle are. Call to the dealership imminent.

It's a bit infuriating isn't it. We all represent a small proportion of buyers and boot issues seem quite common. I've sent a complaint to MG head office as this seems a common issue and not what owners reasonably expect in a new vehicle, especially at this price point. I also spoke with several dealerships who just bounced around several other dealerships. None of whom can lol at it until later April. MG replied today with a holding email to say they are looking in to it and will respond within 3 days. Maybe we can push for a recall.

Yes, completely infuriating, my dealership are trying to sort issues, but not getting support from central MG, sadly it’s a great car.

Think I might have fixed my boot lid closing issue. I adjusted the triangular stops on both sides of of the car frame by loosening the 8mm bolt (you'll need a long reach socket) and sliding both stops outwards by just a millimetre. This seems to have done the trick for me. Worked 10 times OK since doing the adjustment and wouldn't work beforehand. I'll keep checking it over the next two weeks or so and update on here.

Have had issues since I picked up the car. Tried all of the "reset" procedures with no luck. Today I disconnected both connectors on the tailgate control module. Left it for 30 sek and reconnected it. Closed the tailgate manually and now it works fine.
