S6 tail gate issue.

Have had issues since I picked up the car. Tried all of the "reset" procedures with no luck. Today I disconnected both connectors on the tailgate control module. Left it for 30 sek and reconnected it. Closed the tailgate manually and now it works fine. View attachment 44542

Going to try the disconnection option, just had a look, the connectors seem pretty solid, are there retaining clips or such I need to press/ pull to release them?

Yes, you can see one of them on the black connector. On the white I think it was on the underside. Be careful not to break them.

Yes, quite obvious on the larger black one
The clip is on the bottom of the small white one

Hi, I have had exactly the same issue with my brand new very nice MGS6 Long Range Trophy. Issue started after about 1 week. It’s at the dealers now awaiting an assessment and hopefully a fix.
Welcome to the site. Do post some pictures of your new vehicle.

Yes; the dealer has fixed my tailgate locking and also it opens now to a suitable height.

Here is an excerpt from their email

‘We had a reply from MG technical today, we have carried out a self learn on the tailgate module & this is now all working.’

So this should be totally solvable through your MG dealer.

Cheers

Hopefully it will have fixed it, although I believe the self learning function maybe holding down the button for 5 seconds, which is what we have been doing. Amongst other temperary fixes

Mine was working fine from day one and still fine. Have you tried following the instructions manual? See if one of these helps:

Note: In case of extreme slopes, the tailgate may
not be electrically opened or fully closed due to the
change of centre-of-gravity position.

If the tailgate fails to be properly opened to preset
height or fully closed, manually close it once slowly
and completely to recover the functions of power
tailgate system.

Note: During manual operation of electric tailgate,
avoid violent or rapid operation, so that the electric
tailgate system will not be damaged.

Opening Height Setting of Power Tailgate
Users can set the opening height of power tailgate
as needed by using the Close button at the tailgate
or the entertainment display. The power tailgate
controller will record the new opening height.

Setting method 1:
1 Open the tailgate to desired setting height and
keep it stationary.
2 Press and hold the Close button at tailgate for
more than 3 s, the buzzer makes a sound to
indicate the successful setting.

Setting method 2:
1 Turn on the entertainment display and select
'Vehicle Settings - Comfort and Convenience -
Tailgate Opening Settings' in sequence. You can
set it to low, medium or high position.

Done all of the above, it does sometimes work out of the blue and pulls down the boot nicely and locks in like a soft close, rest of the time it slams it closed from not full height or doesn't latch at all and I have to give it a push to latch it otherwise the dash display shows that the boot is open. Will get it booked into MG so they can have some fun, I have also checked the earth connection on the battery which some people were saying they have found loose onto there cars and it seems to fix it but mine was night and tight, thought that was a long shot anyway.

ah, if you tried all the stuff from the manual, yes, book it in and don't bother with wires and whatnot... brand new so they need to fix it. Hope your local garage can do it whilst you wait and please let us know how it goes. Try to record the tailgate playing up so that you can show it to your garage as it often happens you leave the car and, of course, it all works at the garage ... until you drive away .. So, show them 2-3 videos of tailgate malfunctioning and let them worry about it.
