Must say I am impressed with the chargers they are putting in apart from the 3x nectar points.

You can monitor the charge showing when it will get to 100 if that’s what you want you can’t stop the charge from the app though

Rapid 300kW if I remember but may be wrong DC 75p/kWh although it says up to 150kW on Zapmap.

According to Zapmap they are provided by pod point.

Can’t you just stop the charge from the ISMART app instead?

I guess their point is that if you only need to charge 1kWh, you shouldn't hog the charger for the hour it takes you to do your shopping.

Aagh. My local Sainsbury’s has just ripped out its 6 working free Podpoint chargers. I got about 1000 free miles from topping up there. No doubt they will be replaced with payable faster chargers - great for the wider charging community but less good for my pocket.
Waitrose converted their free Podpoints to paid ones a while ago.

I was at the Sainsburys at Darnley yesterday ... I noticed that they had about 4 (I didn't count them) 2-bay Kempower 150kW units, at least one of which had a ChaDeMO plug.

I still don't see how some networks can justify charging 1.5 x the price of others, it would be the same as 1 garage charging £1.50 per litre of fuel while another charges £2.25 a litre. Would you ever choose the garage with the £2.25 price?

Most Tesla pricing is close to or under £0.50 per kWh so £0.75 per kWh feels like a rip off.

Agreed you wouldn't normally pay for expensive charging. (obviously) But if you was desperate or panicking. Then you would. They can charge what they want. Whether we pay is up to us.

It's not a question of desperate or panicking, it's a question of needing to get a charge right now to carry on the journey, and wanting somewhere convenient with food to hand, and not spending half an hour cruising the side streets of a town two miles from the motorway to find something cheaper.

I guess so but the open to all Tesla chargers are 2 - 3 miles away from Sainsburys in Milton Keynes (the location of the OP) and non member rates are £0.68 per kWh with member rates being £0.52 per kWh (at peak times £.0.43 up to 4pm or after 8pm).

For every 10kWh you top up you are saving
75p = £7.50
68p = £6.80 (70p saved)
52p = £.5.20 (£2.30 saved) + £8.99 membership
43p = £4.30 ((3.20 saved) + £8.99 membership

for driving another 3 miles, I guess ok for a 1 off.

at 3 miles per kWh, you get 30 miles from 10kWh.
That makes your costs per mile vary from 25p/mile to 14p/mile.

Milton Keynes is 56p per kWh non-member for 20 hours of the day, 68p is only for the peak 4 hours (4-8pm).

The Superchargers that I use are 48p- 51p (36-38p with subscription) anytime except 4-8PM. I have never wanted or needed to charge between 4-8PM. 12p more between those hours if I do need to.

Dawn was pretty pissed off with everyone cutting in front of her last time I was there!

Did our first real road trip in the MG4. Drove from Portsmouth to Cambridge, staying overnight before heading to Ely and then onto Ipswich for another night before returning to Portsmouth via a scenic route. Covered 373 miles. Recharged once at Sainsbury's near Bury St Edmunds within a few hundred yards of a junction on the A14. Charged from 16% to 92% in 38 mins whilst buying a few items of food. Paid 68p per kWh, total cost £33.

Was spoilt for choice of chargers in that region. We shunned the slow and expensive Premier Inn chargers both nights. I did find a rapid charger at 44p per kWh on my Electroverse app in Needham Market but decided it was safer to grab the ultra-rapid chargers at Sainsbury's before the battery got too low. The charging process was very straightforward, no hitches. I paid with the Electroverse charge card so the cost will be added to our monthly house energy bill.

With winter driving, I can see the advantage of having a car heat pump. With two off us in the car we had the HVAC on all the time to keep warm and stop the car from misting up. Still got 3.8 miles per kWh overall for the trip though.
