Service plan - is it worth it?

The whole world has gone mad, Rolfe!

Anyway, which one of us is mad?

They do include the MOT as well.
Also bear in mind that by getting the services done at an MG garage it automatically extends the free full AA Breakdown cover (MG Assist) which currently costs £148 per year. That's £740 over 5 years! My previous breakdown cover, with everything included, was £100 a year so that's £500 saved straight away. Do the maths, that's effectively 5 years of services and 3 MOTs for £700......

But you get that if you just pay out of pocket each time.

I did look at the service plan but there didn't seem to be any major saving, and when I had the second service done I paid £50 less than the price quoted on the service plan.

Each to their own. I'm happy with the decision I made and you're happy with yours. Everyone's a winner 👍

I used to have the Kia service plan because it was great value and you could use it at any dealer.

It seems the MG plan is linked to a dealer rather than being a national plan. The dealer I used last time has changed to Hyundai, so what would happen in that situation?

The plan is linked to MG, if a dealer closes you just switch the plan to another dealer

I don't understand why they have it linked to the dealer, with my Kia I used to switch between my two local dealers depending on which worked best for that service.

In the end the thing that really annoyed me was the admin fee, which I only spotted when the items in the summary didn't match the total.

I guess there will always be a fee involved somewhere, they're not going to do things for free. On my 5 year plan I think it was approx £100 more than the individual costs but I still believe £240 a year for a service, MOT and full breakdown cover is good value.

I don't mind a fee as such, it was the hiding it that annoyed me most, if it had been amazing valiue I could probably get over that. The negatives were greater than the positives for me.

You are also locking in labour charges and the MOT at today's rates.
