Early days but for those new to MG, going to be very useful. Warranty is only valid if you have a regular annual or mileage/km service carried out by MG. If you do, in the UK you get one year of free AA breakdown cover. Service record is kept on MG database. I have seen some massive difference in prices for the same service, sometimes up to £200 difference between dealers. To avoid nasty surprises (and to benefit from inflation) I would recommend signing up for a service plan where you pay about £20 per month for a number of years and don't have to worry about your hearth health when the time comes ...

Just spoke about this with a colleague who has a MG5 EV. 4 year old, but he drives a lot so he got quoted what was basically a 5 year service and it was over £1000!!!!
For what??

According to my Leasing Company (Tusker) so long as the car is serviced to the service schedule it does not need to be done by MG for the Warranty to remain valid... Hopefully I'll never need to know if it does or doesn't.

Don't know how it works with Tusker, servicing is part of the deal you have, I assume, so whatever they say, especially if you are returning the car when the lease is up.

If you are planning to keep the car, I would stick to MG service, just in case... Looking at the prices I was quoted online, I doubt any other service will be that much cheaper to balance the risk of refused warranty. Not to mention someone that's not really into EVs, messing up the car in the process...

On top of that, annual AA breakdown cover that you get after every MG service is also worth quite a bit...

Absolutely, they give you the choice of paying extra for main dealer servicing. I asked why and they said it was to do with Law change that means it doesn't matter who services the car so long as it's done. Given they are responsible for everything to do with the car except charging it and putting screen wash in I guess it's their problem.

If you have that in writing, keep it. If not, email them and ask them to confirm it's fine to service elsewhere as you were told. Can't help it, I'm too paranoid...😂

I just ring em up and tell em to get it serviced, they tell me where to take it (or get it collected etc) job done.

Playing catch up, yes there was a change in UK law some years ago which said servicing could be any qualified and VAT registered dealer as long as they complied with service requirements and used genuine manufacturers parts. However when it comes to honouring the 7 year warranty unless it’s serviced by an MG dealer it will not be honoured, majority of manufacturers only provide a 24 or 36 month warranty.

Thank goodness it will be Tuskers problem then. Also something to bear in mind when I get to my last leased car before retirement (no not this one sadly) as the plan would be to purchase it from them.
