Question, is mine the only one not having a pull off cover on the slow charging socket? It has a secondary pull off cover on the ccs socket below the big one. ??????
No problem with mine, I suppose the only issue would be if the area completely filled up with water, which is unlikely because the flap makes a good seal, and there's a water drain hole behind the flap to take care of any water that does get in.Interesting, well I've put one on mine now, only time will tell if mg are right or are the other manufacturers right. However I presume you have had no issues with your mg4.
I had one on my MG5I don't think any EV manufacturers put a cover over the type 2 socket.
Thats extremely interesting, yes I've also been drying the area, due to charging in the rain, i noticed the flap lock thingy had been smeared with a white grease and I think your air blast can is a jollygood idea. Think I'll also get a can and some white grease. Thanks for the info.@john1000uk, I had my drain block a short time ago, so please do check if you've been charging and it's been raining that there's no standing water in there. A puff of air from a can will clear the drain.
I always wipe the area dry if it's been wet, especially in the area where the magnet for the open/ close switch protrudes from the flap and goes into a cut out to the right of the area inside the charge port. I've had standing water in this part which had frozen the flap shut last winter.
I assume the MG S5 is similar in this respect to the MG4
Not sure I agree but haven't researched it.I had one on my MG5
Love it, what a great take on the subject. There's no cover on the Type 2 socket because that older technology uses a lath and plaster base with natural horsehair for greater strength in its conductivity and of course it needs to breathe for longevity.
On second thoughts, I just made that up and it is complete rubbish - but I've had no issues with my MG4 and it hasn't had a cover and its has withstood every possible type of heavy rain.
