So after 18 months, I finally work out how to dim the sat nav screen on Android

Actually this has annoyed me for about 4 years (18 months with MG5). I could never find a setting to dim the satnav screen (android) at night). Every time I went out for a drive at night the android screen was obviously too bright and was burning my retinas out. I could never, ever find the setting to dim it. (see photo 1, normal screen). As the days got shorter I noticed that during the day if the lights automatically came on the screen would dim and I still couldn't work out the magic to do this at night. I then had a EUREKA moment and realised that at night, I get in the car and lights automatically come on (its already dark!) before the android connects. The simple remedy was to switch off the auto lights and thus the lights and then re-instate auto and thus the lights.
Voila the screen dims straight away (photo 2, dimmed screen). Perhaps I am just a numpty for never realising this.

When you have auto-lights enabled, the standard infotainment system automatically switches to dark/light mode when the headlights switch on/off.

If you start the car with your phone connected and the lights come on immediately, android auto stays in day mode. You can quickly turn the automatic lights off then back on again to get it working correctly. A very small inconvenience but it would be nice if it just worked

The thing is, I never realised that the screen would dim until I noticed it happening during the day when the lights came on.

This is enabled on mine, but doesn't work correctly if auto-lights are enabled and the car is started in dark conditions.

Auto lights need to be turned off, then back on again, for this to function as intended.

If the car is started in light conditions, auto-switching to dark mode works correctly.
