I really do not understand why MG is so reluctant to go ahead with OTAs.
I mean if BYD, a company with far less presence and history in the UK up till last year happily rolls them out (wife's car already had 2 significant updates the last year) then why MG is holding back?
They are one of the few that don't, part of me thinks it's a way to make money by dealers trying to charge for them

Hi Nik, I think ( hopefully) OTA will happen, my biggest bugbear is the lack of information ( indeed conflicting info) that we are getting. I don’t really mind if the roll out is 6 months away - I just want them to release some time of timeline

I took delivery last July. There were three Scenes; Rainy Night, Nap, and Pet Ventilation. Sometime in August I noticed the Pet Scene was no longer there. OTA?
Then a couple of months ago, the door touch unlock/lock started working a LOT better. OTA?
&%$#@* technology

I'm not happy re the Pet mode being removed! You now cannot leave pets or anyone in the car without the alarm going off, MG have said it's apparently due to UK regulations...... Funny as many other cars have it or similar.

Mmmm, maybe because it disables the alarm/immobiliser and many insurance companies require “an alarm and immobiliser that conform to the Thatcham cat 1 standard"

So how are all other manufacturers doing it then...... Clearly it's a choice for people to use it or not.

I am annoyed about the removal of pet mode, especially as you can't disable the interior alarm sensors. My old Tesla has it and it is a great feature. If i had known they would remove it I wouldn't have bought the car. Now i am stuck with it.

I posted this on another thread, but it's germain to. this thread also. Last July when I took delivery, the scene menu had; Rainy Night, Nap Time, and Pet Ventilation. Sometime in August, the Pet scene disappeared. OTA??
Then a few weeks ago, my door handle touch functionality improved significantly, and remains very good. OTA??
It's feasible that the OTA procedures are quite different for Asia and Europe.

Europe specs can be quite different to Asian ones regarding Chinese cars. Quite often the versions we get are striped down, downgraded ones.
Before I got the IM I was contemplating the byd Sealion7. I was really surprised during the test drive that all smart functionalities were removed.... when queried about I was told that it has to do with regulations for Chinese cars. When I replied that Xpeng has them I got some mumbling back.
I reckon this is the script answer for the lack of any features.

Write a complaint stating this, include this feature was available and you will seek compensation. Ask AI to write it, the more to complain they might do something about it

I believe what MG are saying is that MG EVs including IMs have been capable of OTA updates for a long time, but this facility has never been available outside of Asia as far as I know.

Despite the odd claim, I don't know of anyone who actually has ever received an OTA update in the UK.

We have been told MG UK (and Europe more widely) will be rolling out OTAs for various vehicles in 2026, but we have no schedule. They previously said that they would prioritise the IM vehicles because they are premium and because they have small numbers sold (lessening the risks if updates go wrong).

This was just their plan at the time, not guaranteed and it is possible the plan has changed.

Note though that just because a vehicle has OTA updates, you won't get all updates that way - there will always be dealer-fit only updates for some things. This is common with all other makes (except Tesla).

Which updates MG will make available and when is anyone's guess. But it wouldn't make sense to enable this and then not push any updates, so I would expect both bug fixes and feature updates to be included - it is after all a selling point of the IMs that they support this.

Time will tell and unfortunately MG never seem to want to communicate simply, clearly and directly with customers to keep us in the picture.

I am not so convinced they will go back to the current MG4 and provide this. I expect it will be facelifted versions only that get OTA updates, but I'd be happy to be pleasantly surprised.
