They have been working fine till this morning, just the right one, it would not change tracks or station, or pause either, but volume wad okay.

I messed with it over 25 miles but no good, so when I got to my destination I held the home button down and all is right with the world again I suppose it has screwed up all.my setting elsewhere.

As with all electronic devices, particularly smartphones, malfunctions sometimes occur simply because the internal memory is saturated.
Some mobile GPS units also experience this phenomenon, with the screen suddenly going blank.
My previous Jazz hybrid sometimes had these problems: the multimedia screen and GPS froze.
It's also likely that you did two things in quick succession that the system didn't appreciate.

As usual, a simple reboot (e.g. on a smartphone) or stopping and restarting the car will restore the usual functions.
