I posted this on Facebook recently, but no useful repliies - does anyone here have any ideas?

"Has anyone seen a setting that turns off Android Auto being invoked? The settings in AA seem to be (from memory) 'always on', 'on if used on the last trip' and 'use car default'. I can't find a way of turning it off at the car end. I'm after a 'never start automatically' option'.

No idea how to fix but definitely would be nice. Considering you always need to apply custom settings first it'd be nice to have an option to go straight to that screen.

Best of luck with that, I find AA to be the clunkyest, most aggressive piece of garbage.
Basically I want it to work when I say and stop when I say but it does not like that.
Once you have it set up in the car it will always connect itself whenever its in range. This is annoying if I'm in the house and try to use the phone for music playing only to find it's still connected to the car.
Turn off BT on the phone or in the car and AA just turns it back on. Turn off BT and Wifi, AA turns them both back on. Try to select a different wifi node and AA disconnects that and goes back to the car

Try disabling the Android Auto app in your phone App Management.
OK, but that would stop it working all the time - and to start it when I needed it, I'd have to enable it again via the phone. Not suitable once driving.

Exactly - I want it available when I press the AA button on the screen, but not normally - and I'm fed up with having to switch back to the home screen after it eventually decides to start up. In itself it's a minor thing, but it's annoying.

Yup - that's what I'm finding

As I very rarely use it, I suppose that the earlier suggestion by @Garmor could be my best option.

Problem with that is that AA is not an APP any more, it's part of the Android system. If you search your phone for it you'll not find it.

True, but it's there under Settings/Apps and can then be disabled. Just tried it in the car, and it does stop it in its tracks. When you restart it, it fails as its also turned off notifications, but re-enable them and it comes back OK.
