We normally shop in Aldi, sometimes Lidl (very like Aldi).

Tesco is similar to New World or WW in NZ and Coles or WW in Aus.

Aldi and Lidl are similar to Pak and Save in NZ and, well, Aldi in Aus.

We don't often go there, only if we have to, or if they have things that Aldi or Lidl don't.

Tonight we noticed the prices on some stuff was absolutely silly money.
Unless you have a Clubcard, which we happen to have kept from when we used to go when prices were not astronomical.

A beef joint, over twice the price unless you have the magic card... Crazy.

I remember Which? magazine having a go at Tesco about this as loads of students were locked out of cheaper prices as they could not apply for a card because they were too young. I believe Which? won that and fixed it for the students.

The other issue was, granted it was late, but all the manned checkouts were closed and we had to put our small trolley of stuff through ourselves...

I think some other supermarkets are also making prices higher unless you have their magic card, which I think is very wrong.

There are price increases at the local IGA (Independent Grocers Association) for fresh fruit and vegies, but not at Aldi or WW or Coles (which we rarely shop at) which involves a 70km round trip, just time and inconvenience really, the fuel cost in the MG4 is zero .... but recently, meat has started to climb a noticeable amount at the local IGA ..... they must notice it, although the tourist trade at the moment would probably disguise it a bit, but Easter often marks the end of the tourist season, so it will be interesting to see what happens .....

Do WW or Coles have these ridiculous price disparities where there is one price if you have a "loyalty" card and another massively inflated one if you don't?

Yep, definitely a Magic Card. Got a 1 litre
bottle of Bailey's this morning. £24.50 or Club Card price, £14.00. 😀 On a side note, was walking to me car. And a bloke shout, wow Bailey's, starting early, I also had a Pasta meal and some Chicken bites, so shouted back, yep.
Bailey's and Pasta in a morning, can't beat it! He said that's what you call a Meal Deal! Amused us both. My point being, nice when you can have a laugh, with a total stranger. Not everyone is a miserable git 😉 🙂👍

Meat prices are sky high now, double or three times what they were a few months ago. Tesco butchers were never the best either, you definitely get better quality and for less in the German supermarkets.

No, you get points that can be cashed in on the next shop, stored up, or used at associated fuel stations for a 4c per litre discount for up to 150 ltrs.

Fortunately, over here, we have plenty of underground mutton and lean steaks on the hop ...... they are tad harder to catch and require a rifle.
In the Illawarra we also had plenty oof venison, needed a rifle for those as well, then there is wild goat and wild pig .... the pigs get really wild if the first shot isn't a good one ;), they turn towards you and gain an enormous amount of speed ........

I shot a bore with an "elephant killer" gun owned by the BiL, single shot thing, I was young and dumb (I'm now old and not much else has change) never shot this thing before, so I lay down on the gravel track to ensure I'd get a steady shot ..... this thing came flying out of the bushes, straight for me, they are shouting for me to "shoot it, shoot it" but I waited till it was close enough I felt I couldn't miss ..... I pulled the trigger, slide backwards far enough to skin the elbows and forearms, belly, and knees .... looked up and it was still coming .... I dropped the rifle and ran like a hare for a bunch of trees, when I got there, the pig is laying about 5 ft away from the gun and the two blokes were rolling on the ground laughing ... the BiL had tipped his mate off to watch what happened when I took the shot because it had kick like a mule ..... that story did the rounds for ages ....

Loyalty card prices are not new and not unique to Tesco (Lidl has it's Lidl Plus app). I find Tesco now price matches Aldi and in some instances have better prices than both the German stores.

My Lidl Plus app saved me £40 last month and if you ever want to use the Lidl charge points you also get a discount by using the app

I think we all know the best place to get Aldi prices, and it ain't Tesco. 😁
Yeah, I find it amazing that Sainsburys and Tesco have the name of a rival plastered throughout their store.

Just goes to show everyone associates them with being the best possible price.

Not sure about Australian laws but is it legal to shoot bores . We will all try to keep our posts interesting , relevant and amusing to avoid such unpleasantries should we visit the southern hemisphere. :D
