The Tesla full self-driving thread

Well in my experience when you use TJA the car is self driving!
Sure, but there is an enormous leap from "driving itself sometimes" to "driving itself always, more safely than a human". Think about difficult turns in heavy traffic, rain, ice, snow, glare, pedestrians, animals, junk on the road, construction zones, different regional roads rules and conventions, emergency vehicles, and unexpected situations. The consequences of getting it wrong are of course very high.

It's a very complex problem to solve. Look at how poorly early some LKA software performed in MGs. I suspect that BYD have poured vastly more resources into this than MG/SAIC and most other Chinese vehicle manufacturers.

Just resurrecting this thread to note that this seems to be quite an achievement.

It’s a long, long drive. My son and I did similar. San Diego, California to Sturgis, South Dakota driving a Ram 450 pickup truck (with a Cummins diesel) , towing an enclosed race car trailer with two Harley Davidson motorcycles in it.

He seems to have done over 900 miles a day, which is amazing. I wonder how long he slept for?
Aye we were on Son’s boss’s credit card and had a couple of luxurious hotel stops and fine evening meals/ breakfasts. Snacks for the actual driving times were jerky, nuts, fruits and water / sodas consumed on the fly.
