Apart from Friday's News Quiz on Radio 4 where, when discussing Trump Musk spat a comedian stated nobody is buying Teslas because there's nowhere to charge them. We've replaced the other half's Suzuki with a 3 y/o Kia E-niro, apart from the colleague who was horrified because she she didn't want to be stranded anywhere, 3 different friends' first comment were 'what is it's range?'. That's despite hearing about our recent trip to Scotland and that I've had the MG4 for over 2 years.

I usually ignore it but it shows how ingrained 'range anxiety' is in people that don't own an EV, even though they've been in my MG4 for a reasonable distance and listened to me talk about our holiday trips.

That's a novel way to look at it.

I'm sure on a topgear show many years ago, Jeremy was driving an amg sys. He said at top speed tips got 12 minutes of fuel.

Or something along those lines.
As it was a bragging right is smiled upon, say it's an EV and it's frowned upon.
Mind you I watch drag times channel on YouTube and it was a Lucid vs the new Taycan with the Weismann pack.

The speeds and times splatter normal ICE (and EV) cars.

My Mother-in-Law just got her first EV last week. (Mokka-e)

She was still asking strange questions about range and things the day before collecting it.

But once people get used to driving an EV these concerns disappear.

If you don't have friends or family with an EV then it will be harder to grasp.

For me, being the first, I watched a lot of Bjorn Nyland videos, which does the job, given the lengths he goes to in order to run out of juice.

I just asked a few people with EVs how they liked them. And watched their eyes light up as they raved about how much they liked their cars. There was no half-hearted "yes it's OK I get on fine with it" sort of stuff, it was full-on enthusiasm. One couple had come up from Northumberland one Sunday morning for the church service for some reason, and had their car on the charger in front of the church. The wife said, we could get all the way there and back on one charge, but since the charger is there, why not? (That was before it broke down, and I think in fact it was right back when the electricity from CPS was actually free.) I guess Northumberland isn't really all that far, less than 100 miles, but it impressed me at the time. Well enough to buy the SR MG4 and decide to make it work.

Indeed it’s the attitude to the whole idea as much as the realisation that shunning the smelly dirty petrol forecourt is very doable.

I said you do realise it was a range rover that started the fire and it's caught on camera.

I have kept the same approach for years now. Whatever silly anti EV bingo claim they come up with, just agree, it usually encourages them to come up with even more silly claims which you should also agree with (and laugh yourself silly inside). I mean they are paying a huge amount of tax through their fuel purchases and are driving smelly nasty vehicles (just try driving an ICE car after having an EV for a while, it really surprises me how bad they are). I have had an EV for getting on 9 years now, and fully appreciate how much ICE drivers contribute to the countries financies, and am happy to let them keep on paying.

Range anxiety is more accurately charger anxiety. Fossil (appropriate word) fuel service stations are starting to convert to charging stations. At some time in the future ICE cars will suffer range anxiety. The difference is, will the ICE owners be able to refuel at home....

The term "Range Anxiety" first appeared in 1997 when the charging infrastructure and range of EV's was very different to where it is now. It is not exclusive to EV's and as long as you know how much range your vehicle has and where the next fuelling station is there is not really any need to become anxious about it.
