They still don't get it! (EV sceptics)

I can't remember the topic but I remember Sam the viking had a really terrible video that he got roundly criticised for. He had just totally missed the point on the topic he was talking about and was effectively spreading misinformation. The premise of the video was based on his misunderstanding of something. Everyone in the comments was pointing this out and asking him to take it down.

It was also very badly edited with another bit of video getting added on the end. It seemed like he was just churning out nonsense with no quality control and I lost a lot of faith at that point.

This was the only Sabine video I've watched and I thought it was good, it was on about the hype train, constantly promising the next big thing tomorrow when it is probably years away.

The Electric Viking just seems to be about the money, not worrying if what he says is true or not. It also looks like he doesn't bother reading or responding to comments. And this video is still up, no removal, editing or apology.

I like more honest channels like Gary Eats, he has more subscribers than the Viking but seems to respond to nearly every comment. For EVs I like the Electric Vehicle Man.

Ben Sullins is a great FUD buster. A data analyst who decries the non factual based opinions with real data, but also agrees with the parts which can be backed up with data.

I find Sabine Hossenfelder so annoying I don't watch her stuff, but I see Sam being quite roundly criticised in the comments on that video.

The video of his that really bugged me recently was about the self-charging (regeneration) iron ore train. He was gushing like mad about the potential for this technology to be used in all sorts of applications without at any time seeming to realise that it's only applicable in the very niche situation where a very heavy load is being transported from a high altitude to a much lower one. Iron ore is particularly heavy, meaning that the cargo weighs several times the weight of the train itself, and as it rolls downhill it generates a lot of power - enough to charge the batteries sufficiently to power the much lighter, empty train on its journey back uphill. As someone in the comments pointed out, the train is "charged" by the work done when loading the iron ore into the containers.

Sam's starry-eyed take on this seemed to completely miss this point, and indeed suggested that he thinks that the First Law of Thermodynamics is a mere optional suggestion.
After living in the NSW Illawarra area, the coal trains and coal trucks would most definitely benefit from regen braking, and reduce the level of brake dust and pollutants the Jack-brake in each truck generates, along with the noise pollution .... anything that delivers to a harbour is going to have at least some down hill, the rail line and road Sydney to Melbourne and either to Adelaide would benefit greatly from regen braking.

Put overhead lines for the trains where power is plentiful, then run them on battery power to the next powered section, Australia has big sections where this tech would work well ..... and we could end that rule where locomotives must remain idling at a min any time they are on the main line ..... I've witnessed them sitting outside the container terminal and on the single line into/out of the grain silo rail lines for 48 hrs or more .... crazy waste of fuel/money and added pollution ....
