So I've had my S5 Trophy Looking Range for three months now. Have to say, I'm pretty disappointed overall.
There's just so many wee niggles. Wee cost saving annoyances. The non automatic window closing for instance. Or the lack of a light on the vanity mirror under the visor.
Then there's the missing things that I'd expect in a modern car. Steering wheel buttons to pick up and hang up the phone. Front parking sensor. Front fog lights. Cornering headlights. And a bloody screen that automatically changes from dark to light when it gets dark outside.
Then most annoying, the things that just don't work well. The phone link that keeps cutting me off. The infotainment system that just doesn't 'flow'. The front collision avoidance system. The auto headlights. The cruise control that randomly slams the brakes on as you're happily tootling along the motorway.
Trying to think of what I like about it. The turning circle is pretty good. It's quite comfy.
I think when I come to change cars again in a couple of years I'll be very wary of getting another MG.
I can't say I agree with much in your whine, but I'm moving from an MG4 which I thought was a great car and several of these were featured there.
To help you, the screen colour does automatically react to the lights settings but strangely the first time you have to drag down the settings screen and choose dark with lights on. After that it's hard wired.
While you're there don't forget to setup everything the way you like it (OTHER functions and save it to the top right custom icon (goes blue from grey)
Yes, the LKA is hugely improved. Hugely. But occasionally I'd unsure it turns off. It doesn't slam on the brakes but you have your energy recovery set to high,so it feels like it. After LKA was upgraded on my MG4 it did the same thing. About once a week.
The lights are fine.
Yes, front parking sensors are surprising - customise one of the star buttons on your steering wheel to turn on the (360°) camera, then you can park MORE accurately.

Tbh with all the improvements on the S5 Trophy over my updated MG4 Trophy I am delighted with the S5.

Chill and enjoy all the great features. Just don't for get to close the rear window!

You can disagree with a member without calling their post a whine, everyone is entitled to their opinion and what annoys one person may obviously not annoy another.

Then there's the missing things that I'd expect in a modern car. ... Front fog lights.
You might not have noticed, but this in an industry trend. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, et al have all stopped fitting front fog lights to their cars.

The cruise control that randomly slams the brakes on as you're happily tootling along the motorway.
This happens to many cars. There was a recent What Car YouTube video where on a road test, the Mercedes suddenly performed an uncommanded emergency stop and the Tesla behind it couldn't stop in time and hit the Mercedes. The MG IM6 behind the Tesla, however, was able to stop in time.

They are not needed because modern LED lights have a flat beam so you don't get the scattered light, as you do from traditional headlights, bouncing back off the fog causing glare. Fog lights were fitted low down so the light undercut the fog and reduced the amount reflected back into the driver's eyes.

And it is a good thing due to the unmentionables who drive around with their front fogs permanently on!
