I have noted that Geely is already accepting orders for its debut EV SUV
Yet with a bit of research I came across a hand full of very tempting options, quite worth the wait, if you are not in a hurry.
What are your thoughts?
ModelLaunch FocusStarting Price (Approx.)WLTP Range (Approx.)Key Advantage
Geely EX5Late 2025/Early 2026£31,990 (Confirmed)267 milesStrongest value proposition.
GAC AION VQ1 2026£32,500 (Est.)317 milesExcellent long-range capability.
XPeng G6 (2026)Early 2026£40,000 (Est.)332 milesUltra-fast 800V charging.
Deepal S07Late 2025£39,990 (Confirmed)295 milesHigh level of standard equipment.
Jaecoo 5 EVQ1/Q2 2026£27,500 (Est.)

The other thing to note is that only one of the above companies (Jaecoo) has a reasonable sized service network in the UK. Xpeng and Deepal have small but growing networks, GAC and Geely have 'plans'. Could all be different in a year's time mind you but it was one of the major reasons why I went MG.

I agree, I wouldn't have considered any of the recent arrivals as they have no track record of service in the UK and after all may not stick it out in the longer term. Although MG isn't known as being the best from various anecdotal comments and Which surveys they are here, have been a while and have a UK presence for technical support.

Out of all of them Geely are the biggest they are the parent company of Zeekr, Volvo, polestar and lotus and could potentially utilise service centres from some of those brands.

That's one of the reasons why I went with MG for my first EV. I didn't want to risk them disappearing like Fisker.

The 2026 Leapmotor C10 is supposed to be a big upgrade on the launch model, if the price stays the similar to this year it should be another serious competitor. We looked very closely at one but it was still behind the MG S5 at the time.

The thing about EVs is that new ones are coming out all the time.

You've already got an EV so this doesn't apply to you, but I do worry you get people who are putting off from getting an EV because they think that there will be a big change coming (solid state batteries, megawatt charging etc.).

In general I'd say just get one when you need one and look at what is available at that point in time.

The differences from one generation to the next are getting fewer I think.

It sounds like you aren't in a hurry, in which case you can stick with what you've got and can review the wider range of options further down the line.

That's technology for you, always something faster, better, newer just around the corner.

My friend is a good example of the best EV is just about to be launched so I'll wait for that.

He's got solar panels which produce more than he can use, house batteries and a Zappi charger, which he had installed nearly 3 years ago, and he's still not got an EV. Meanwhile in the same time frame I'm on my second EV.

He's a retired chief engineering systems manager and I think the problem is he does too much research but as his diesel Ford Mondeo estate is starting to have lots of minor faults he might take the leap in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath.

Exactly.

People hold off because they don't want to miss out - but the only way to guarantee missing out is to hold off and hold off.
The positive is that if you are happy with current models there are some absolutely cracking deals available at the moment (some pre reg have huge discounts)
